With the super bowl coming to Houston in two weeks, does anyone know if events like the NFL experience, which is held at the George R Brown convention center and an open party at discovery green , would be off limits to conceal carry? Is it best to look for 30.06/30.07 signs. Not 100 percent if any laws come into play because it's NFL events.

I think the answer to your question is situational dependent. Outdoor events at public parks like Discovery Green are not posted, but inside GRB can be another story.

I was there last weekend for the Houston marathon packet pick up... a decidedly not professional sporting event. There were 30.06 and 30.07 signs all over the place.

I was there last weekend for the Houston marathon packet pick up... a decidedly not professional sporting event. There were 30.06 and 30.07 signs all over the place.

Unfortunately, I agree. Mind you, I know nothing about detailed plans and preparations--did a couple minutes of Googling, which helped not at all--but considering it's the NFL and a very Blue city government, I fully expect 30.06/30.07 signs to be everywhere, and for metal detectors or wanding to be at many facility and venue entrances.

I hope I'm wrong. But the fact is, it's a one-time, very-high-profile event that will span only a few days, is being conducted at a time of heightened terrorism awareness, and it is being planned, managed, operated, and enforced by anti-gun, anti-freedom authorities. Add to that any potential infractions of Texas codes with respect to prohibiting licensed carry would have to be reported to the AG's office and would likely not be investigated for months--long, long after the Super Bowl is over and everything is back the way it was--and there is literally no downside (in their minds), not even a slap on the wrist, for Houston's mayor and city government to apply as much no-carry enforcement as they can to any associated events that they can.

Again, I hope I'm wrong. But I bet I'm not.

If I were the Falcons , I'd have a security guard stationed at every fire alarm in the hotel.

Even if they were hit with a penalty by the AG's office, compared to a superbowl's or the city's budget, that cumulative penalty is nothing. Probably falls into the +/- x% discretionary spending error of the overall project. I almost wonder if the penalty shouldn't have instead been linked to the local government's annual budget as a percentage amount. What would be a crippling fine for a small west Texas town is the catering budget for a meeting in a large metroplex.
