Every morning I take my XD40sc from the top of my dresser to the car. This morning I had several items to carry so I placed the weapon in my teacher bag along with the papers I graded last night. My usual routine is to place the weapon behind the right seat easily accessible to me however because it was in my bag I forgot about it. I drove to school, got my bag and started walking towards the school. Five feet from the sidewalk I suddenly remembered the gun I turned around like I had slipped on something and returned to the car where I deposited the gun in it's daily position while at work.

I've actually done that. My wife's a teacher, and I was helping her set up her room this summer.

I accidentally had my BUG in a bag I was using to help carry stuff into her room. When I was unloading the stuff in her room, I saw it. I pretty quickly ran out and put the thing in my car.

Granted, school wasn't in session then, but the law doesn't make any recognition of that fact, so...

And you know what...If you had forgot about it and took it into class...And then remembered...And you went out to secure it like you did, anyway...

It frightens me when I think of the number of inocent lives you almost endagered. What if a student had passed you on the sidewalk and became contaminated?? They should have made it unlawful for a CHL licence holder to leave their homes, that way these types of society destroing events will not occur.

Sad thing is, I bet you'd be in just as much trouble if you simply had a "Guns & Ammo" magazine in your bag.

Tim - do you work in a district that posts their parking lots? If so, do you park off the lot and get people who ask why?

My wife teaches in a district that posts the 30.06 in the parking lot, so I've always parked on the street and left it in the car.

Is this a public school?

If so, the 30.06 is invalid, so I wouldn't worry. If it's a private school, then yeah.

It's such a shame. What should, for us, be a habit of always carrying, we have to straddle the line of when to carry and when to not carry. It seems to be a much more dangerous situation. Knowing my luck, when I need it, I'll be in 30-06 territory when the BG doesn't follow the same rules.

It's a school in Mckinney ISD and the parking lot is not posted. I wish I could have my weapon all day with me all day but .......

You guys/gals would also like to know that I showed pictures of my gun collection as part of a "get to know your teacher" slide presentation and I had 4 kids go to the counselor and tell him. The counselor sent them back to class with a "That's nice." No parent phone calls either so it didn't go any farther.

If you taught elsewhere, those pictures might have gotten you suspended....just like the kid who got suspended for just drawing a gun. "Zero Tolerance" you know....
