Is Adult ADHD an issue???

I was listening to Glenn Beck's radio program this morning and he was describing the condition and the medication he was taking to "improve" or reduce the effects of the disorder...

ADHD is (for those who may not be fully aware of this condition) is Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder...

It appears to span age groups and gender...Kids and now adults have been diagnosed with it...

Ritalin is prescribed to both children and the adults who are effected by this in varying dosages...

What makes this pertinant to our forum, is that it is becoming a more widespread diagnosis across the country, and that the effects of the drug used to counter the condition appear to effect that persons attention span and other "mood" type reactions and conditions...

Does anyone know if this could be used by the Texas or other States as a disqualifier for a CHL permit/license???

And if the treatment for this condition disqualify you???

I actually work next door to a clinical psychologist who dispenses medications for varying mental conditions (I assume she sees a lot of ADHD folks), and I may pop in there to ask her what she thinks in regards to "licenses and other certifications" awarded by the State, etc etc...

A large portion of children are now medicated as a result of the diagnosis of ADHD. What is really needed is discipline and structure, and parental involvement in their children's lives. Previous generations have matured and grown old without medication.

Now adults are on the medication wagon. Just what we need - more drug induced adults walking around.

/sarcasm.

As far as a CHL - who knows. It may steady a persons hand. Personally, the smell of burned powder has always affected me. My kind of euphoria. And after the session, a little dab of Hoppes #9 between each ear has made me feel sensuous.

My thoughts exactly. What used to be called "being a kid" is now a syndrome. IMO most "syndromes" are perfectly normal behavior. Some kids are hyper and some are more lethargic. It is up to the parents to be parents. These days it's just too easy to medicate the kid. After all they are easier to control when they're medicated.

Why not extend it to adults. If they show signs of individualism there must be something wrong. Medicate to control the pers...err the "medical" problem.

As far as CHL. Is being treated for mental disorders a disqualifier? Does ADHD qualify as a mental disorder?

Personally I think our country's population is "over-medicated"...

But I have yet to see if Ritalin effects people in a way that might cause concern (from a licensing perspective) if you are being treated for this condition...

The Doctor lady next door has been lite on patients today, but her door is locked, so I can't go in there and ask her the question...I'm sure she'd tell me, I just don't want to put a bind on her day...

After listening to that show this morning, it just kinda struck a chord with me for some reason...
