The Brave One........Jodie Foster

Post by Stormwatcher »

I have always owned guns....although......I have never carried........except while hunting.... and never conceal carried at all.

I was out late one night shortly after Hurricane Ike hit Houston. I needed fuel for my generator. I had to drive approx 80 to 90 miles from my house...........to get the fuel. While getting the fuel. I had an encounter I really don't know how to describe.......

I was at a gas station in the middle of a prairie on Hwy 59........It was between 2 and 3 in the morning..........station was closed......no houses......no other businesses

The gas station was closed. Although the pumps worked if you used a credit card.

No one was there but me and 13yr old daughter.

This pick up truck pulled off Interstate-59 and pulled into the gas staion drive way and I thought they were going to get fuel. They did not.....they just circled the parking lot a couple of times........never stopping......he just idled around the pumps a couple of times.

Now let me tell you....I am an out of shape....middle aged....... clean cut white male........Driving a 2008 Honda Civic.

I don't think I would scare anyone.....and my skinny 13yr old girl does not look scary either.

My point is.......any rational person would not be afraid to get fuel while I was getting fuel.

But this guy didn't get fuel.....so I was concerned he was up to no good.

After about the third time idleing around me..........I stopped pumping fuel and set the nozzle down.....and faced the truck. I turned in my place 360 degrees twice more always facing the truck.

By this time..........my right hand was in my jacket with my ignition key ready should I need to hurry and drive off.........now that I think of it.......he probably thought I had a gun.......

After I put my hand in my jacket..........he took off.......got back on Hwy 59.....

That is why I recently took my CHL class and applied for my Texas CHL license.

After this experience.......I said to my self........NEVER again. I will NEVER be unarmed again!

I hope and pray that I never have to pull my pistol.........I would try retreating before using it.

Anyway.......alot of set up for the movie. I have ran the events of that night through my head over and over.

Tonight I watched the Movie "The Brave One" starring Jodie Foster.

I understand that her character is operating on revenge at times but this movie gives you a little taste of what could happen to a law abiding person...... if forced to used deadly force. Makes you think.

It is a good movie and I think it will make everyone that carries....... stop and reflect on how big a resonsibility it is to carry!

I saw an interview with her about that movie where she stated "I don't believe that any gun should be in the hand of a thinking, feeling, breathing human being. Americans are by nature filled with rage/fear. And guns are a huge part of our culture"

I dont think Ill go see the movie and put a few bucks in her pocket.

I did see this movie and it wasn't as anti-gun as I thought it would be. She is VERY anti-gun. I didn't like the movie though because, in my opinion, it did nothing at all to advance anything to do with carrying a gun for protection. My take on this movie is that is was supposed to show that we as people will become animals if we get a gun and that revenge is justified. For those that haven't seen it, the cop helped her cover up her revenge killing and throughout the movie she started seeking out trouble. This was a modern day "Death Wish" that used a female character.

That's my opinion for what it's worth.

While at the Fair yesterday, I saw someone that I thought was up to no good.

There was a young Mom & Dad taking pictures of their little girl. They had her stand near the flowers, fountain and such as they snapped away. But just off to the side was someone that was watching them a little to much. Everytime they would move to a new spot, he would pan back and forth between them and the stuff on their stroller. May not have been anything, but it made me question his intentions.

As my wife & I got closer, we stopped to watch. I made certian he saw me watching him. He didn't stay around. He was heading toward the pond as I told two officers what I'd seen. They thanked me & called it in.

Not sure if anything was going on, just didn't "feel" right. And my PaPaw always said, "When something don't feel right, it's cause it ain't."

Good stuff!!! That's the way to handle that.

It sickens me how these elitist/socialist/hypocrites in hollywuss make their money off guns/violence/criminality and then have the nerve to condescend to us lil folks about our right to self defense of family and property thru "superior fire power".

People like Stallone, the "gubner" (ahhnold), Foster and other's like the new Bond Daniel Craig are such obvious hypocrites to make millions off guns but say...oh the common folk shouldn't have guns...while using armed security to protect them ...or having gun permit on the side like some of our "illustrious" civil servants in congress who have gun permits.

"Oh I need this permit cuz i'm more important than you peasants!" :rules:

I've seen the movie and thought it was well done, but definitely anti-gun. The first couple of shootings are self-defense and yet the lead actor runs from the scene like a criminal and asks herself..."Why are my hands not shaking? Somebody please stop me." A logical person would answer - Your hands are not shaking because you have not done anything wrong and if somebody would have stopped you in those two previous incidents, you would be dead now. Since she is in New York, where concealed carry is prohibited for most people, she was probably wise to avoid the police but morally justified in her self defense.

When she walks around the city after recovering from the attack, she is very aware of her surroundings. Before the attach she was oblivious. Unfortunately, situational awarness is portrayed as paranoia. In order to "heal" she has to get back to the oblivious state.

Interesting insight into how some people see the world.

It was a poor rehash or Death Wish. My wife wanted to see it when it came out, so we saw it in the theater. Wasted money.

Makes you appreciate folks like Tom Selleck even more.

I saw the movie and liked it. It pointed up the inability of the Police to protect you. I believe these movies come out because people are angry and want to "take the law into there own hands". Remember that guy who actully shot several subway muggers? I think his name was Getz. Well as anti gun as New York is, there was a hudge outcry from the public to leave him be, as opposed to "send him to prision". New York has almost allways been a place where people felt powerless against the BG's (and there are a LOT of BG's in NYC)!

As for Jodi Foster and all the other hollywood types that are anti gun, I avoid some of them who are active in the cause, but to be honest I don't read the hollywierd news enough to know who the lastest "star" is that hates gun's. I didn't know Jody Foster was one of them but it don't supprise me. If you never watch anything a anti gun star is in, you ain't gona watch much. In fact I rarley watch a move or the TV.

I liked Death Wish (even though the last ones were badly done) because it points up a NEED in all of us to defend people who can't (or won't) defend themselfs. My wife watches all the movies and comes and tells me which one I will like--LOL That's what happened on this movie; and she was RIGHT!

I got a chance to check out this movie yesterday evening. I thought it was a well made movie and found it entertaining. I like Jodie Foster (regardless of her being anti-gun) as well as Terrence Howard.

It always difficult for me to go see a movie, even a good one, when I know the actor or director is anti gun and then it's reflected in the movie.
