Benchmade
OK........NOW I get it! Now I understand why people are willing to pay so much for a Benchmade knife.
My son and I went to the 5.11 storefront in Frisco for their Black Friday sale. They had 25% off on everything in the store, AND they were giving out $10 off coupon cards. I got myself a messenger bag and a tote purse for my wife, and I saw they were distributors of Benchmade knives. I picked up a 940-2 model with an Osborne designed reverse tanto blade of S30V steel, and black G20 scales. MSRP is $200, 5.11 had it listed at $173. Taking 25% off brought that down to $130, and with the $10 off card, I ended up paying $120 for this knife.
My son bought a 940 a while back, and after handling it, I totally got the attraction. I would have loved to have one, but there just wasn't any way I could justify paying $190 at Amazon.com for one. But at $120, I think I scored.

Re: Benchmade
I use to carry a Benchmade until I stupidly left in on the back of a fertilizer trailer in the middle of a pasture. When I went to replace it Benchmade had become very proud of their knives. I switched to Spyderco. The knife's quality is every bit of a Benchmade, but much more affordable.

I've got the barrage and that spring assisted blade opens lightning fast. You would think it was an auto.TxLobo wrote:Yes, yes you did... I have the Barrage and the 5000 Auto Persidio.. Sadly, the 120.00 Barrage can open the blade faster than the 250.00 auto..
I've got benchmades and spyderco and if I had to choose one I'd go with a benchmade because I love the axis lock

Re: Benchmade
I had an Osborne until I lost it at a Deere blind. I found the knife in the middle of a vacant lot so no real loss but it was such a good knife that I'll have to get another one.

Re: Benchmade
There's a 5.11 store in Frisco??? I know the new Gander has a really good selection of 5.11 stuff but I really didn't know there was a dedicated storefront anywhere...?

Yes, they do have one there, but I don't know for how long. I get the impression that it is a fairly new store. It has a pretty decent inventory of clothing and gear. The staff seem pretty friendly too.......not at all snobbish.TexasJohnBoy wrote:There's a 5.11 store in Frisco??? How is 5.11? I was looking at a pair of their hiking socks today. (Sorry to get side tracked)

Re: Benchmade
Yep, there's a world of difference in the better knives. I have three Benchmades and my favorite is my Zero Tolerance. I've tried Emerson too but my ZT opens like an auto (but it's not). I have some ESEE knives for hunting too. I've been tempted to buy a Microtech auto but haven't wanted to part with the money yet.

Re: Benchmade
I have Microtech, Benchmade, Zero Tolerance, and Spyderco knives. All very good knives. I rotate them every week...
