Re: North Korea threatens to nuke US
Let's see........ That was Tuesday, so yeah...... he makes that threat on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays on odd weeks, and Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays on even weeks. He rests on Sundays, 'cause he's all wore out from making threats.
Not to worry. He's going to die of heart or liver disease soon enough.

Re: North Korea threatens to nuke US
While the nuke threat from N. Korea may be the usual bluster, the real danger to America is the 35,000 U.S. combat troops located just seconds away from massive conventional attack by the North. Having spent two Infantry tours there, the major concentration of our troops in just a few miles from the DMZ, and sit on the major centuries old invasion routes to S. Korea. How much warning time would we have with a massive artillery, rocket, and missile attack? Answer- none. Thousand of U.S. and S. Korean troops will die, as well as massive civilian casualties. There has always been a lunatic in charge of N. Korea, and this one could be the worst. So, no matter how much we joke about the "fat boy," the threat is very, very real to our troops. N. Korea may be short of food, but their not short of military hardware and troops that have been preparing for "this" combat for decades. It's no joke.

A shame to consider it will put American lives at risk popping that little zit of a human.
Here's hoping, if it comes to that, only the target falls.

Re: North Korea threatens to nuke US
Which is WHY the troops are there. The biggest concern about Fat Boy is that he is crazy enough to ensure his total destruction by attacking South Korea or the US troops there. The first time after we backed Grandaddy Fat Boy to the Yalu River we backed off when the Chicomms sent 700 troops a minute at guys with M14's firing 600 RPM. This time we should make it clear to the Chinese what will happen if they intervene.G26ster wrote:While the nuke threat from N. The other reason the fat little inbred may need to be preemptively taken out is that he has nuclear weapons and has shown a willingness to proliferate them. If we had good information that he was going to give them to Iran or try to use them, we should level Pyongyang before he gets a chance to. This jerk is crazy enough to nuke the US or South Korea and it may serve us to take him out.

Uh..... for the record, I'm pretty sure that the M14 didn't exist during the Korean War. Otherwise, yeah.ScottDLS wrote:Which is WHY the troops are there. Re: North Korea threatens to nuke US
I was not addressing what we "should do." I was addressing the joking around about it. Preemption is one thing, but no one is going to "nuke" N. Korea without massive consequences. S. Korea has an Army of 495,000 troops. N. Korea has 1.2 million. The 35,000 U.S. troops will make almost no difference in a convention conflict. The S. Korean army is one of the best in the world, and I can attest to that having worked very closely with them even as far back as the early '60's. We are there basically for "political" and other reasons, but making a "major" combat difference is not one of them at this point in time, and frankly when we had 50,000 there in the '60's, the same was true.ScottDLS wrote:Which is WHY the troops are there. Re: North Korea threatens to nuke US
How many were there at the beginning of the Korean War? I suspect 35,000 US troops with modern weapons would make a big difference. We really had no military reason in the Korean War for not backing China all the way back across the Yalu river. Once you get Navy carrier battle groups and long range bombers into play you could take out Little Pol Pot's starving army. No doubt DPRK could roll over the DMZ quick, if they did it without warning...and Seoul is what 100KM away? DPRK army has lots of artillery, rockets, etc, but what about helicopters, modern aircraft, close air support, long range bombers, etc. And I'm talking all conventional here. Maybe Obozo really hollowed out our forces there, but I wouldn't want to bet my 1.2million against South Korea and US 500,000. It was probably a mistake to move tactical nuclear weapons out of the peninsula, but I assume it would be fairly easy to drop one on Pyongyang from a B-2. And it WOULD be justified if Fat Boy invaded the South and could potentially save lives.G26ster wrote:I was not addressing what we "should do." I was addressing the joking around about it. Re: North Korea threatens to nuke US
Seoul is only 35miles from N. Korea. Both S. Korean and N. Korean troops have modern weapons. Do you know what an opening salvo of artillery, rockets, and missiles would do to U.S troops and Seoul before anyone had even a chance to respond? No one doubts the outcome of a conventional war on the Korean peninsula, it's the massive destruction of an opening attack by N. Korea that is, and always has been, the concern.ScottDLS wrote:How many were there at the beginning of the Korean War? I suspect 35,000 US troops with modern weapons would make a big difference. Of course not, but it would be a shame if they had an "accident" at Punggye-ri in advance of Saturday's test.G26ster wrote:I was not addressing what we "should do." G26ster said it well. Having been in S Korea as well, the biggest queetion is- how to kit NK without them using the artillery and missiles
