Quora question on why some oppose gun control

I subscribe to a site called Quora - peer reviewed questions with answers. I answer some of the firearm related questions and sometime some of the questions on laws and legal requirements regarding firearms.
This question showed up today and I gave this response.

Why do so many people oppose more stringent gun controls in the United States?

I want the same stringent restrictions put on the 1st Amendment IE. - passing a background check and getting permission to exercise it, licensing required, fees and taxes applied to purchase printed material, armed swat teams raiding your house w/ jail time and fines for violating the restrictions. Even shooting you in the head in the middle of the night serving search warrants for books, magazines etc, if they think you may have sold some of them without having a license. Making government meetings prohibited locations for speaking, Police stopping you on public streets if you’re speaking about something they don’t like or agree with or perhaps just speaking and arresting you if you don’t shut up. Treating you like a criminal any time you speak.
If you don’t like the stringent controls I proposed for the 1st Amendment, then maybe you can figure out why gun owners don’t like all the “controls” put on the 2nd Amendment.
