Reversed flags?

#1

Post by LedJedi »

Can someone please explain this to me?

http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/FLAG931-56175-675.html

why would they make a reverse flag? I seems rather unpatriotic to me, but i've seen it no military uniforms. There must be a logical reason for it.

To elaborate and summarize the Yahoo Answers article, this has been traditional on Army uniforms for decades; the "pole" edge of the flag should always face front to simulate the way a flag on a pole would look from that side if you were charging into battle. Far as I know it's military-only; Scouting programs whose uniforms have the flag as a patch always use the regular "stars-left" orientation even if the patch is worn on the right sleeve (as is the case with Tiger, Cub and Boy Scout uniforms).

Never did understand why the Army didn't just put the flag on the OTHER sleeve?

The distress signal is putting the field (the stars) at the bottom.
