dihappy,

Do you mean your hotel won't accept cash for payment for a room?

The only way to stay the night is to produce a credit card?

If so, I'd very interested in knowing the hotel name?

I stay at hotels all the time and I don't use a Credit Card cause I don't have one. I let the m run my debit card and then just pay cash with when I check out.

dihappy,

I should've also asked: In lieu of a credit card, will your hotel accept cash in advance for room rental or is this too not acceptable?

Thanks

It has been impossible to make a hotel or car rental reservation without a credit or debit card for at least 20 years, more like 30. That's why I had to get one in the first place.

The only hotels that accept cash with no credit card are ones that you wouldn't want to stay in. Don't ask me how I know.

seamusTX ,

I too use a credit card for almost everything. Certainly making a hotel or car rental reservation without one would be almost impossible.

However, I wonder if a quality hotel would refuse cash in advance in person for a night's lodging?

Anyone know the law regarding it's acceptance or refusal by business?

(I have seen TV commercials where some poor soul is trying to buy something or other while waiting in line - when all others have been using a credit card - and he's treated like a pariah for having the poor taste to use cash. This commercial was sponsored by a credit card company, naturally...)

When I was on my Ike vacation, the Holiday Inn (not the Express kind) we stayed at took cash up front. To make a reservation though, you needed to put a card down. Most hotels don't even use the card info unless you're a no-show or unless you tell them to use that as your payment method at checkout.

A business can pretty much decide on its own terms for payment. You can accept them, negotiate, or go somewhere else.

A hotel would most likely accept cash for payment, but they want the credit card on file so that they can bill you in case you steal something or trash the room.

U.S. currency still says, "This bill is legal tender for all debts, public and private," but that's a piece of historical fiction these days.
