San Antonio Road Tax Hike

Has anyone else noticed a serious increase in the presence of police on 281 / 35 / 10 in San Antonio? I have lived here for a few years and almost never saw a cop on the main roads until 3 months ago. Now it seems like there's at least 5 on any given highway from south SA to north 1604.

Are we witnessing and increase in "road tax" to make up for any dip in sales / property tax? Is this a new ticketing campaign? Does anyone know if it's going to end???

San Antonio used to be so laid back. I'm going to have to buy a radar detector.

Maybe it's a conspiracy to sell more radar detectors... and you just got duped!

Radar detectors are like other forms of protection can and do fail . The best form of protection in most situations is not to place yourself in position where you can be affected. Driving the speed limit, avoiding the bad parts of town, ect. This is why we CHLers realize the need to avoid situations where we may have to use our protection, why we obey the laws, and so forth. If you speed odds are at some time you will be ticketed.

Well, yes and no. I generally average one or fewer tickets a year. Often, "driving the speed limit" can make you a hazard, so for the most part, I go with the flow. My wife's car, which I must drive for a while, is a ticket magnet. Recently I got pulled over and I completely deserved a ticket or three. Somehow, I got only a warning.

I have just been noticing that the police coverage is getting so thick that it's starting to look like a police state.

Has anyone else in San Antonio noticed this?

I live in San Antonio and drive all three of these roads and have not seen an increase.

I notice them 'more' since getting my first ticket in the 17 years I have been driving. Shame on me. 80 in a 65. On the other hand, great interaction. Took both ID's and didn't ask anything else....ahem other than where the fire was...

$191 ticket.... no gunshow last week for me. Sorry for the thread jack ub'

Just so you know, you can usually take defensive driving and get the ticket dropped. I think the usual limit is 10 over, but if you appear and say it's your first ticket in 17 years, I'm sure they would cut you some slack.

pbwalker: Have you been checking for the barely-marked cars? You can't see the marking until you are almost next to them. They seem to outnumber the marked cars by 2 to 1. And they aren't all crown victorias anymore. Nearly any American mid to large car or SUV could be a cop car.

I used to work around the 1604 / Stone Oak area. In the 6 months that I drove 1604 I only saw SAPD once, when 7 squad cars had 7 people pulled over in a 1 mile stretch of road. Kinda made me wonder if they hit one road at a time to encourage speeding or if it was a drug-realted bust. No hundcuffed suspects though when I drove past, just looked like a massive speed trap.

Edit: I thought the limit on defensive driving was 25 over? I know I got deferred on 45 over once.

Oh I see those...sneaky ones those are! But no more so than normal. I generally just don't speed or if I do, I just keep it in reason and let someone else be the bird dog.
