Pain

#1

Post by pbwalker »

I am usually the last person to preach about diet and health (I am far from the poster child for it...I could stand to lose 30lbs) but I figured I would do it just this one time.

DRINK WATER! Stay hydrated and limit the soda! Limit red meat and be sure to drink juice. If not, this will happen to you:

Saturday, I noticed that I was going to the restroom quite a but more and it got me wondering what was wrong. My wife noticed it as well. I went to bed late that evening and woke up at 3am in the most horrendous pain I could ever imagine. My lower back was hurting! I thought I may have tweaked my back, so I got up to stretch and it only got worse. I tried to lay back down and the pain was blinding. I woke my wife up and told her there was something very wrong. I tried to see if I could go back to sleep but I couldn't. I finally decided it was time to go to the ER. Not an easy decision for me as I have a pretty high pain tolerance and I'm more of an "Advil and Sleep" kind of guy.

Anyways, come to find out that it was a Kidney Stone. My diet, combined with my sedentary lifestyle all created this perfect storm.

The pain cannot be put in to words. Suffice to say, there were times I was almost passing out in pain.

So let my pain be a lesson. PLEASE stay hydrated. Drink lots of water and juice.Lay off the soda and junk. Stay hydrated!

I never imagined, at 30, that I would get a Kidney Stone. I still have yet to pass it, but the pain is much less now. There is nothing quite like it to make a grown man cry and completely change his diet and lifestyle.

I've heard that kidney stones are the most horrific pain imaginable. Sorry to hear you have one and hope it passes without to much more pain.

Thanks for posting and the reminder. God speed. :tiphat:

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but they really don't know what causes them. I've had 4 in my life time. I quit drinking sodas after the first at doc's suggestion. Haven't had a soda in some 15 years now. But still had 3 more stones. Changed diet, eating habits everything the doc said to do but still had them.
Then he tells me after you have one, odds are you will have another. Great. The golden years ain't quite what I had in mind. :???:

Well I caught it from all sides - - - Kidney stones run in my family - - - I have gout that adds to my chances - - - I love a cold beer yep - - - Ice Tea will encourage them - - - But (fanfare ta daaaa) real lemonade will help dissolve them. I haven't had a stone since I gave up tea for a mealtime drink and started drinking lemonade instead. FYI my daughter has had four kids and one kidney stone - - - she says childbirth isn't as painful.

The first one I passed hurt so bad that I seriously considered shooting myself except I couldn't get out of the fetal position to get a gun.

My wife had one over July 4th weekend, spent a night in the hospital, all kinds of tests until they were 100% sure that it was a kidney stone, etc...absolutely NO fun for her (or me for that matter - sleeping and hospital just don't seem to work for me, was a loooooong night, at least she had drugs to help).

Yep!!!....Kidney stones have chemical make up of Calcium, oxalate, phosphate, and uric acid for the most part. So you got it! Soda=phosphates, milk=calcium,Tea=?? I think its the tannic acid. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Most people do not drink enough to keep the chemicals from concentrating in the kidneys. When they concentrate they stick together and form the beginning of a stone and more chemicals, more material for the stone. Then you end up giving birth to a healthy kidney stone. :cryin

The pain can be unbearable!

I have found out that most urinary tract infections or maladies can be cured, very quickly from my experiences with cranberry juice...

I keep a few cheap ole cans of the concentrate in the freezer for just such emergencies...And when it is not, it can be quite tasteful, if you are able to develop a taste for it...I have and its not that bad...Especially in the summer months...Which is 3/4 of the year anyway, but that's beside the point... ;-)

It may work for stones, yet it may not, since I have not had one, I cannot compare notes...Yet, the properties in this juice does do interesting things to clear up those maladies in the urinary system...It may even help doctors decide what to do, and not to do if you catch these things quick enough...

I would never wish pain on anyone, and if this gives some people something to plan and prepare for, then don't thank me, thank muh doctor years ago who put me onto this stuff...

Like I said, it may work, it may not, but since it does attack these problems in that area fairly quickly (like within 3-4 hours), and you got to pan this stuff down like there is no tomorrow, what can it do but really bring the issue to a point of no return...

When you gotta go, yer gonna go...No use in fighting it I suppose... :tiphat: ;-) :thumbs2:

Our daughter has been blessed with kidney stones. First one when she was 17. I honestly thought she was dying. I have never seen anyone in that much pain. She ended up having surgery to remove that one, as it got stuck and would not move. She still has it in a jar - named it Ralph. :???:

Good news is, she has passed 3 more since then without surgery. I hope yours passes uneventfully too.

Best to limit or eliminate the intake of athletic rehydration fluids such as Gatorade and Powerade.

Well, if it's not one thing it's another.

I apparently passed the stone last weekend and came to find out that my symptoms all week long were from another kidney stone. Fortunately, I passed that one this morning.

Now it's time for the urologist to tell me exactly what is causing these. If it's diet, then that's fine. I can easily change that. Let's hope that's all it is.

I feel like doing a jig now that I am free of the stones (as far as I know)!

About 6 years ago I was sitting at the home computer working when all of a sudden I felt a hot flush wash over me... I got up to go to the bathroom when I was hit with the worse pain imaginable and ended up in fetal position in the hallway. I was finally able to crawl to the phone to call my wife and tell her something was seriously wrong. My pulse was through the roof, I was white as a sheet and sweating like a pig. At some point the wave of pain and nausea mellowed a bit and I got up to go to the bathroom, wash my face and take a leak... PLOP! There it was. I fished it out, washed it... and still have it in a little bottle. It makes a nice rattle when shaken.
A memorable, but extremely unpleasant experience.
