Went there this evening to eat and the whole city is cash only. Seems they lost DSL earlier today . Nobody can do credit/debit cards. Including Wal-Mart and all the resturants.

I guess, you'll have to go to the ATM to get some real cash money. :biggrinjester:

Those require connectivity as well...unless they are using a POTS line, they are offline too!

I dunno. A couple of weeks ago I went to a gas station, but was told the satellite was down so I couldn't use my debit card. I went to the ATM in the store, got some cash and paid for my gas. I guess it depends.

Yep the ATMs were down also. Didn't actually try a local bank up there since I don't have an account in the town. Had to come back to Leonard to eat.

Whatever happened to the old 'credit card imprint machines' we used when I worked in a service station?

Been a while since there were 'full service' service stations, huh? When I worked in a service station, they were all full service.

I saw one after Katrina. A local store didn't have their computers ups so they were running credit cards through the manual imprint machine. The charge showed up a week or two later. I had a few hundred bucks in cash but since they were willing to take the credit card old school style, it allowed me to keep more cash in reserve for retailers who weren't so prepared.
