Re: Rifle In Public??
In Austin... People call in a man with a gun for uniformed armed security guards walking to and from their home/car before/after a workday... Someone out in a public place with a rifle will draw attention from someone in fear of their personal safety... Just my opinion tough
Chl class for me and wife=$225. Chl application fees =$280. Chl gear for 2=more $ the previous. Moving from sheep to sheepdog = priceless

When did we all become wussies? I remember when I was in high school, wal mart carried the gun racks you mounted in your truck Window. People even bought them and used them. Just don't carry it "in a manner calculated to alarm".

BTW, I'm not the least bit shy about carrying concealed, carrying long guns to the car, or cleaning guns on the back porch. I've never had a MWAG gun call. I guess those "keep Austin weird" bumper stickers are working better than expected.

Fear, anger, hatred, and greed. The devil's all-you-can-eat buffet.

People see me carrying long guns includng evil black ones all the time. Hard to hide when living in an RV resort. Never had a MWAG call. I am fairly certain folks have seen me with a pistol on as well since I absentmindedly walk out to my truck to fetch something occasionally.
If I was in Austin I might even egg on the antis when I could just to stir the pot, so to speak. I have been known to do so, especially when I am 100% certain I am within my rights to do so.
Just me.

That might be fun if the cops didn't shoot your chihuahua as a matter of policy.anygunanywhere wrote:If I was in Austin I might even egg on the antis when I could just to stir the pot,...

I agree with the suggestions of talking to the PD beforehand. Just tell them you're informing them as a courtesy, maybe tell them the locations you have in mind and give them a physical description of the people involved so that when they get the calls they know it's you. Granted, this is Austin... so who knows. Probably better to argue it out beforehand than when they've overreacted to a panicked phone call, at least.
Is she set on any iconic Austin locations, or could you get away with somewhere outside Austin proper that still has the general look? I feel like the outlying smaller-town PDs would be more friendly. If it's worth it, go ahead and try Austin, but if she's just thinking somewhere in a greenbelt, there are other options that might simplify your day.
I'd be curious to hear how things work out. I don't do much photography these days and I've never had a request for a photo shoot with a gun, but you never know.

I'm still waiting on her to give me more info.
