Giga, congrats and hope all goes well for you. I have always been interested in your perspective on things since you were a leo but look forward to any new insights. I had some trepidation myself when I retired from the military but all turned out well.

Congrats, gig! Best of luck with your new job and welcome to Houston. Maybe you've visited enough to know the area , if not get ready for culture shock! I'm trying to get away from here
, but I have to say the opportunities for good engineers is very good here, 'specially for Aggies.

Re: Shaking things up...life change
Howdy, your post reminds me of the husband of an acquaintance of mine. He was a former Airedale, and is now a Captain with American Airlines. She told me the story of her husband's getting ready to board a post 9/11 flight to Europe, where he was the plane's Captain. As he was going through the TSA Theater for flight crews, they discovered a small pair of nail clippers in his pants pocket which he had forgotten was there. The TSA guy said they were going to have to confiscated it, because he could not be allowed to board the flight with it. When the Captain said that he didn't understand what the big deal was about, the idiot held the little clippers up in a dramatic flourish, and he told my friend's husband with great authority: "with THIS, you can take control of the aircraft!"howdy wrote:Congratulations on fulfilling a very large dream. I have never been a LEO but I was a pilot in the Marine Corps. When I left active duty to go to my dream job (airline pilot), I found the thing I missed the most about the military was the camaraderie.
No activity since can compare to the friendships I had there. I have been told by LEO friends that they have a very similar
camaraderie. I encourage you to persue the reserve Deputy opportunity. There will be times when that College degree and the secure/safe job will not feel like enough in your life. Be safe out there.
{DAT Da DAAAAAAA!!!!

The husband, who was going to be piloting the aircraft, just looked at the idiot and didn't bother debating with him whether or not he required the clippers to fly the airplane. There are some kinds of stupid for which there is not only no cure, but for which the penalties are simply not painful enough. You can only hope that they don't vote and that they're sterile.
Carry on.

Thanks guys. The reserve program has a lot of potential for me, and I could be doing some cool things if it all works out.

A little late to the party, but Congratulations!

Good luck to you. Big changes like that can be scary, but it sounds like you have it well thought out. Don't stay away from the forum too long.

Congrats! Speaking as a guy who also did the job-by-day-school-by-night (well, in your case, the opposite), I often look back on those times and wonder how I ever managed to do it. May you road ahead be prosperous!gigag04 wrote: We have been in the process of relocating to Houston this month. Best of luck to you in your new path. I hope all turns out well
If I may offer a small suggestion from a ME but also long time contractor, if a contractor questions what they may feel is a mistake, don't get upset at them. Listen to them, explain your reasons and weigh all sides. So many of todays engineers think that their way is the only way and is right no matter what.
