Thank you guys for saving me $$$$ on my jeep

Post by texanjoker »

Earlier this week I had posted about my home AC going out and the Jeep clutch on the say day. Talk about an expensive week! Thanks to the posts by forum members that know about cars, I learned that the pilot bearing should have been replaced when the mechanic replaced the clutch in March. I sat for 2 days with the Jeep ready for p/u figuring what to do as I didn't feel I should pay the $600 plus they wanted for a new clutch. I researched and then called the manager. He looked into it and the kit I had paid for in March came with the pilot bearing, and he had said my jeep had the original in it, meaning their mechanic dropped the ball. I just got the jeep back at no charge under the 12k warranty with another clutch kit installed. Your info saved me a lot of money!

THANK YOU! :cheers2:

That's great and good to hear the company did the right thing.

I'm glad to hear that it worked out for you and that the shop stood behind their work and made good on a costly mistake.

That is awesome. I'm glad to hear that the shop made it right by you. So many places these days won't do that even when it is their fault. :thumbs2:

texanjoker, it's good to know that the shop stands behind its work. They did what they were supposed to do and backed their warranty. The fact that the pilot bearing comes with the clutch kit tells you all you need to know about the standard procedures for clutch jobs. No reputable shop would warrant a clutch job yet not replace the pilot bearing.

The kit they installed came with it and should have been installed by their mechanic. The issue now is that the manager should have known this and instead tried to charge me for a new kit this week. When I threatened to sue them it go results. I got the jeep back, but they will not see me there again as they almost pulled a quick one.

...zackly. I wonder if they have installed any other clutch kits where they "dropped the ball."

Any shop that drops your tranny and doesn't replace the pilot and throwout bearings when doing your clutch is a shop that I would not ever return to. This is "grade 1, page 1" stuff.

I'm glad that it worked out for you - and it's unfortunate that you had to agitate to get the shop to do the right thing.
