I'm often amazed that someone will condemn smoking filtered cigarettes for the damage they do to the lungs, while saying that smoking non filtered marijuana is not harmful.
I'm an exe smoker. I quit about 6 years ago. I can't stand the smell of it now. I think it's a horribly nasty habit. But I'm not a fan of smoking pot either. I've seen first hand what that lifestyle can do to someone's life.

We don't need to pass this "information" around if it's wrong.adaboy5 wrote:These are numbers that are shared with us. Please update as needed. I just like to keep people informed. It's astounding how many people die from the abuse period. As far as the gun deaths I believe it's all lumped together how death occurred. Sorry for the bad typing I'm using a tablet and it's different. We need to pass this type of information around keep people aware!

Woosah!! That's like saying we dont know the cure for aids so we dont need to share information about it!! Just because we dont know exact numbers doesnt mean we dont share info. I believe we will never know all the correct numbers becasue to many people have an idea on how they are compiled and will never agree on how to do it( another problem in itself). As long as we make people aware that it's not the illegal drugs that are the big problem, it's the legal stuff you buy on every corner!

Your example is syllogistic. My counter example would be that although we don't know a cure for AIDS, let's make up some things to show how bad it is, while pointing out that people don't die from genital herpes (Also questionable at best) just to scare people from doing things that cause AIDS. Instead, let's put it right back in the same genre. CDC's latest report runs to 71 pages, and you can probably cherry pick whatever numbers you want from it, but the numbers you quoted don't appear in it in that form.adaboy5 wrote:We don't need to pass this "informatiojimlongley wrote:adaboy5 wrote:These are numbers that are shared with us. The numbers are wrong, that makes the "information" disinformation and purely propaganda. Your stated purpose, to make people aware, is rendered defective by the use of numbers that are questionable, and actually begins to appear to be the start of a plea for the legalization of pot. Using such skewed and even obviously wrong numbers is exactly the same strategy employed by the anti gun, anti rights nuts who seek to take our guns from us.
Instead of arguing with people here who have shown the numbers to be suspicious, you should be pushing back against the people in authority who published the numbers, we are more your friends than they are.

I believe the statistics for tobacco illness and death are false to a great degree also. I am sure it contributes to illness and death but in many cases there is no way to prove the cause of cancer or heart disease.
One guy I know developed bladder cancer. The doctor asked if he smoked and he replied he had quit about five years prior. The doctor told him the bladder cancer was caused by smoking.
I am not saying that smoking is not bad, I am saying I believe they played fast and loose with the statistics like they are doing with guns today.
If someone repeatedly puts out information that is later found to be false pretty soon no one will believe any information from that source.

If you believe the statistics, not smoking is more dangerous than smoking. If you're a smoker, they put down it was caused by smoking. If you never smoked, it was due to second hand smoke, as everyone has been exposed to it at some point in their life. This skews the numbers so that it appears that it's more dangerous to not smoke than it is to smoke. All because they're sure it was due to tobacco smoke some how.
