Reversed flags?

Can someone please explain this to me?

why would they make a reverse flag? I seems rather unpatriotic to me, but i've seen it no military uniforms. There must be a logical reason for it.

To elaborate and summarize the Yahoo Answers article, this has been traditional on Army uniforms for decades; the "pole" edge of the flag should always face front to simulate the way a flag on a pole would look from that side if you were charging into battle. Far as I know it's military-only; Scouting programs whose uniforms have the flag as a patch always use the regular "stars-left" orientation even if the patch is worn on the right sleeve (as is the case with Tiger, Cub and Boy Scout uniforms).

it was also used as a distress signal on ships way back
i guess it would still work now

The distress signal is putting the field (the stars) at the bottom.

yeah im not sure that could be read from a distance but you would have to ask the people that well are dead
