I'm new to pistols and will be in Houston TX the week after the 4th of July, wanted to go some place cool
What are some of the places to go to check out guns and things?

Well, Houston's a big city :) Where you'll be exactly does make a difference :)

Definitely Stop by Collectors firearms on Richmond if you get a chance. Their selection of everything is Huge, you'll find things there that you won't see anywhere else.
However, the prices of things are just as high :)

If you're looking for a handgun range, On my side of town, West side, I personally Recommend Memorial Shooting Center. Great staff, very friendly.

Not sure if there's any shows going on this weekend, but I'll do a quick check and post here if there is.

Free time is up in the air as we will be visting
SWMBO's sister. But I can always get "lost" if I need to get away
