I have a Surefire that is my all-round do everything light -- self-defense, firefighting, medical calls, look under the hood, feed the horse in the dark... but a friend emailed me about a special Home Depot.
They are selling a pack of 10 Brinkman 6-LED flashlights, including batteries, for $9.98 (plus tax). They have a push button on/off in the tail, a little lanyard, and have synthetic bodies in red, gray, or black (each package has a mix). They are about the size of a Surefire G-2.
They are no competition for my LED G-2, but for a buck a shot, if they last a couple weeks I am going to be happy. I bought two packs -- some I will stash some around the house and car in various dark corners and save some wear and tear on my G-2, the others will save for stocking stuffers and nephews' birthdays. Nothing like giving the little guys a really bright light and watching them annoy their parents for the rest of the day. Fun for the whole family!

As a parent of young children, I will say yes you are very EVIL
But my friend in Houston area taught me a great tactic for dealing with annoying toys .... when kids are asleep, remove batteries and next day say "gosh honey, I guess it's broken. Sorry."
You guys are mean! Besides, my 3 yr. old knows how to change batteries (sigh).
Thanks for the tip on the cheap lights - remember how magical (and expensive) leds were when they first hit the market?
While it's not "cheap" ($20.00), may I suggest checking out Energizer's new 1 watt led "mini" flashlight. It's just a little larger than the single AA battery that it runs on, and it's so bright you can see it in daylight (seriously). It's no toy as it causes temporary blindness (tested it on a friend). It's no surefire, but worth a look if your in the market. Mine quickly became part of my "don't leave home without it" gear.
I realize this is a little off topic, but hey, I'm just trying to brighten your night.
They have Cree brand flashlights, 2 per pack, 160 lumens each,
for $20, including 6 AAA batteries.
The flashlight cases are black and are marked on their cylinders
with "Tech Lite Lumen Master".
They have a 3 position push button in the tail:
1. Bright - To blind a bad guy.
2. Brighter - To blind a bad guy with more lumens.
3. Strobe - Just in case you want to blind the BG in the most annoying way.
The pushbutton in the tail blinks red when the batteries fall below 20% of
the full power.
These lights ROCK.

Just bought two packs of the Serengeti tac lights at Sam's. The packages come with two flashlights and the batteries for $29. They are much like the ones above sold by Costco. I am extremely happy with them. Very bright and good quality. I can read the fine print on my mailbox at night from my porch. A very good buy for what you get.

I looked in 2 Home Depots and couldn't find those Brinkman packs. I did buy a 6 pack of LED flashlights for $10 + tax. The pack has 3 each of 2 styles. The 1AA lights have a single LED and are pretty dim. Might be good for finding the bathroom in a power failure but they don't throw much. The 3AAA lights are bigger and brighter. Still not tactical lights by any stretch of the imagination but not bad as general purpose home flashlights instead of the old school 2D flashlights.

Ah, too bad. I had a feeling this was a limited time sale...so I bought two packs for myself. One will be stocking stuffers or birthday gifts, the other I opened and have put one in each car, a couple different places in the house. As you say, they are not a replacement for my Surefire, but they are great for general utility use.

Went to my local Sam's today looking for those flashlights. What they had was a different brand."Element" no strobe just bright and brighter settings. I only bought I set. But they are bright.

I picked up a couple of packages about a month ago when Costco had them with a $5 instant rebate. For $15 a two-pack, I can't see how you can go wrong!

I was in Costco this week and saw they have the Lumen Master super high intensity tactical flashlights in stock again. They're claiming 150 lumens now and I think the new package says it's a CREE XP-E emitter but no bin info.
Home Depot also had a huge bunch of the 6-led and 9-led utility flashlights for a buck or two. Cheaper in multipacks. Great for behind computers and under sinks where dozens of lumens is too much.
