Anyone know how to correct incorrect public info??

#1

Post by Mike1951 »

All of the people finder sites have addresses for me where I've never lived and incorrect relatives. I contacted one and the following was their reply.
Unfortunately, there is no specific place to update your records. You could possibly check with your local City Hall, and see if they can give
you any information on their records. Other than that public information is gathered in a variety of ways and every time you subscribe to
magazines, have your phone number listed in the white pages, register to vote, or simply enter to win a car at the mall this information is
gathered. We do not update or modify any of our records, simply display them as they have been reported to us. We apologize that we could not
have been more help to you in this matter. If you have any further questions or concerns please contact Customer Care. Thank you.
There is no city hall and the appraisal district has no other records besides my homestead. The first thing I did was pull all three credit reports. None showed other addresses. The problems began about 15 years ago. My brother lived next door with a different address. He moved into town. Mail that was legitimately mine was never forwarded. However, every catalog that my brother and sister in law subscribed to was now duplicated in my name. I sat down one day with a stack over a foot high and called every one to have my name/address removed. It didn't help. After a few years, my brother and family moved to Brenham. Now, that address is also shown for me.

There doesn't seem to be a way to eliminate the incorrect information. Any suggestions?

There are to be the some ways for updating and they may also do correction in the database of the particular person becasue I don't think there are the no ways to update the information regarding the person.

Are you positive those others are actually you and not just other folks with the same name?
I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

The question is: How has this mis-information harmed you? Yes, it can be aggravating. If no harm, there is little you can do.

If they don't show up on your credit report, more disinformation in the public databases is better, IMHO.
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

The only instance where it affected me was that Discover initially refused to issue me a cash advance PIN because of the other address history.

Oh, and the census folks must have sent all of my mailings to one of the other addresses. There was no followup at all. No contact at all this year.

Mostly, it has to do with being put on countless mailing lists, even if they send the mail to my brother's house. Unfortunately, my brother conscientously saves the mail for me so there is a large stack whenever I visit.
