OK folks, my mum is coming to visit (Houston) for a couple of weeks from England, soooooooooooo any ideas/suggestions as to where to go what to do. I have a few ideas but any suggestions would be gratefully received. (She's very easy going and enjoys pretty much anything).
Thanks in advance.

It depends what she likes. There are some good museums in Houston. Also good opera, ballet and theater. If she likes planes, I enjoyed the Lone Star Flight Museum. Also in Galveston, walking on the beach in December might be a treat for someone from a colder climate. The Galleria and outlet malls are great examples of American consumerism. Mexican and Cajun restaurants of course, and there's also Indian food if she gets homesick.

Since she'll be there for a few weeks, the state capitol, Fredricksburg/Gruene, the Alamo, and some garden or nature centers/state natural areas would be good choices as well. We went on a fabulous tour at Honey Creek State Natural Area that covered the region's plants, animals, rocks, water and water sources, people and history all in a fabulous low-impact and gorgeous hike. You can find out more about it here:

This kind of question always depends upon what the person is interested in. Here are my suggestions:
Take a walk through the
downtown tunnel system. Depending upon your tastes, you could spend all day there. I can personally recommend
Treebeard's, which is a casual Cajun cafeteria.
Go to the observation deck of the
JPMorgan Chase Tower, which is the tallest building in Texas and was for some years the tallest building in the U.S. west of the Mississippi. It's free.
Houston tends to demolish or bury its history, but
Market Square contains some of the oldest standing buildings in the city. There's another branch of Treebeard's on Market Square.
Discovery Green can be nice on a weekend day, but maybe if you've seen one park you've seen them all.

After taking in the above very excellent suggestions, y'all might want to go to your nearest Wal-Mart SuperCenter and show Mum how the rest of the colonists amuse themselves?

The Port of Houston has a pretty neat (and free) boat tour. We've taken several out of town people on this and I still enjoy it every time.

Then be sure to take her to a western wear store. She'll probably OD, just looking around!
