I did not know if this should have been posted in the Prayer Request...............

foxnews.com wrote: Veterans in Houston say the Department of Veterans Affairs is consistently censoring their prayers by banning them from saying the words "God" and "Jesus" during funeral services at Houston National Cemetery.

This is not what I had in mind when I swore to, "protect and defend the Constitution of the United States". When I am laid to rest I want my remains to be among my brothers and sisters (which includes my wife) in arms at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery. A prayer that includes a thanks to God for my life will be said.

Apparently when Obama appoints you to a cushy Patronage job he expects you to do more than just keep the landscaping nice.

She has closed the chapel. Prohibited the VFW from providing honor guards at funerals and generally stopped everyone from saying the word God a veterans funerals.

I'm as mad about this as I have been in a long time.

Idiots

Just idiots.

Is this something that started recently? We had the my Dad's burial in March and had no problems. We had Patriot Guard Riders including a Flag line, VFW Honor Guard and Flag Ceremony with bugler. The Ladies presented my Mom their card, but I don't recall if they said God Bless You. Is she a recent appointee?

This:
Arleen Ocasio, has banned saying "God" at funerals and requires prayers be submitted in advance for government approval,
Is what disturbs me the most. Isn't this the kind of tyranny our forefathers fought against?

I wonder if someone filed suit over this blatant disregard for our freedom of speech and freedom of religion under the auspices of the First Amendment and the "Free Exercise Clause" coupled with the Fourteenth Amendment. If someone filed I would suspect they would not take it all the way to the SCOTUS. Heck, the Westboro Baptist Church can scream their hatred toward our fallen heroes and their families as they yell about GOD and protest Uh, 500' from the funeral... And the SCOTUS upheld their right 8-1... :banghead: :mad5 :banghead:

A little off topic, but, did anyone else notice back in the Bush days the TV's at the VA clinics were usually on Fox News, but when Barry took office they switched to CNN???? That's what seemed to happen in the Austin area. I wonder if there was some little message sent out that forbids Fox News at government facilities??

This topic leaves me kind of speechless ...

On the one hand, if the Houston National Cemetery is government. property and wars are for the benefit of the government. then, if the government. is not supposed to favor any religion, leaving the word Jesus out of services makes some sense. On the other hand, pushing separation of church and state to the point that prayers have to be vetted before saying them out loud in public is totally silly.

It just goes to show that, if you mix a little government with a lot of religion, you get more government. I worship the One God not the government; they don't mix. I don't try to reconcile them.

The 1st Amendment promises freedom of religion not freedom FROM religion. They haven't banned Allah, or Muhammad from pray, this story would be completely different if they did

So, you submit your "speech" (it could not be called a prayer) without any reference to God or Jesus. Then when you deliver your "speech" you adlib God and Jesus wherever you want. What are they going to do, shoot you?

The libs have been calling for separation of church and state for so long, people are starting to believe it's in the constitution. Here's the first amendment:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
