Best BBQ Joints in TX

#1

Post by pbwalker »

Since the Rudys thread morphed, let's start something a little more on-topic.

I've had limited exposure to Texas BBQ being a transplant (9 years and counting) and only have eaten it in limited geographic areas. With that caveat, I offer my choices:

Coopers (in Llano, not New Braunfels)
Inmans (also in Llano)
Old Smokehouse (San Antonio)
Texas Pride BBQ (Adkins)
Easy Pickins BBQ (Harper)

I'm sure I am missing a few, but these are the ones that stick out in my mind as awesome BBQ joints...

The Barbecue Depot in Vidor, Texas and the Salt Lick in Driftwood are two of my favorites. Lots of good Q in Texas.

City Market in Giddings. I'm a big fan of "hole in the wall" BBQ joints :biggrinjester:

I like Cooper's in Llano. Not sure I consider Underwoods barbecue. It's seem more like baked meat in barbecue sauce. I do love their cobbler.

Nothing wrong with the McRib it's fast food not BBQ. It's what's known as faux q.

I arrived in Texas about 8 years ago from NC. To me, BBQ will always mean PORK. Beef is nice for variety, on occasion.

That said, Hard-8 in Stephenville is pretty good and the beef ribs at Coopers inthe Fort Worth stockyards is the best beef BBQ I've had anywhere outside my back yard.

Kreuz in Lockhart is lovely! We enjoy PitMaster in Spring, and don't know if they are still doing it, but the New Old Zion Baptist church in Huntsville was the BEST BBQ I have ever had!
