Don't mess with old men

Pensacola, Florida (News Journal) -- Two teenagers were shot by a 72-year-old man they allegedly beat with a baseball bat during a home-invasion robbery in Ferry Pass.
Lucky for them, he was in a good mood. :fire

Yeah, it could have ended up like that case down in Laredo that happened some time ago. You know, you have to wonder about people who don't teach their kid(s) the simple lessons of "if it ain't yours, don't touch it" and "think before you do stuff".

I'm surprised that he was able to recover in time to shoot and that a man of his age wasn't knocked out by the baseball bat. Hats off to him :tiphat:

Hey, 72 is the new 36 don't you know? :coolgleamA: Contrary to what you see in movies and TV a blow to the upper part of the skull isn't automatic lights out nor will it disorient you every time. I applaud his decision not to shoot the one running away in the back as he was no longer a threat.

A very gutsy and prepared gentleman. :thumbs2:

"The 72 year-old said the 3 teens . . . should consider themselves lucky. Jack Crawford said that when he fired his gun, he made sure he didn't fire a fatal shot . . "???

I applaud the old man for having a hard head and for having the foresight to be armed. But he was a major FAIL on some of his tactics. First, why would he open his front door at night time to 3 young men? Second, although we shoot to stop the threat, not shoot to kill, the most effective means of stopping the threat do not include trying to play Roy Rogers. Center mass . . .

LOL. I have actually yelled through my door at people to go away at 9pm at night. I was amazed to find that at that time of night my postman was still out and about trying to finish deliveries and I had run him off.

Otherwise, I have no issue with him (the subject of this thread, not the postman) carefully placing his shots. Hats off to him for ballistic-moderation!

There is always the possibility that he just sprayed and prayed and retroactively decided to take credit for doing what criminals' mothers have been crying for for years - "Why did they shoot to kill? They could have just wounded him." Not that I doubt his shot placement, just sayin'.

A few years back one of my fellow IDPA shooters managed to put three shots in the head of a target, at about 15 feet, while on the move, retreating to cover. A nice little cloverleaf. He took all the credit for doing it that way, even though he wasn't usually that good, and to my knowledge he never did it again. BTW, the stage called for two to the body, one to the head.

Does anyone else feel the way this is reported is just wrong?

I find these reports exceptionally disturbing as well.

Intentionally hitting ANYONE in the head with a baseball bat, let alone a 72 year old citizen, is attempted murder in my book. IMO, those 3 criminals should have ALL been put down like rabid animals, because that is exactly how they behaved.

Might be a good thing though... the teens will probably face charges so the have to use allegedly. Old timer is still alive and free.

It should have said... Two punks got what they deserved. The punks parents will be responsible for paying the 72 year old man for the bullets he used.

I've seen someone's signature line that says it best... don't mess with an old man. He can't take the beating, so he'd just as soon shoot you! Guess in this case, he could... but, did, anyway.

This 74 year old man answers the door with a 9mm after dark. Old men will not take an a** whipping. PERIOD. :txflag:

I don't answer the door after dark unless you have called first. That's just me.
