Epic Reporting Fail

#1

Post by The Annoyed Man »

Somebody fed KTVU TV (SFO) the wrong names of the pilots of the Airliner that crashed in San Francisco last week, as a joke. The list actually made it onto the air.

LINKEY: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... 1JYHNX8pdo

I didn't embed the video to conform to forum rules (one of the names contains a modified profanity, and all are racist), but this is one of the dumbest screwups on air I can ever remember. You have to be a real cottage-cheese-for-brains to read this list with a straight face......on the air.......but by golly, someone at KTVU is just that dumb.

Priceless! "rlol"

Edited to add link to article where I originally found it: http://www.mediabistro.com/tvspy/epic-k ... -lo_b97368

What's hilarious is that a TV news crew in the PC capitol of the world would fall for that stunt!

I almost felt a little bit guilty laughing at that as hard as I did---almost. The NTSB is apparently blaming an "intern" (how very convenient) for improperly "confirming" the pilots' names: http://www.ntsb.gov/news/2013/130712.html. Idiocy knows no bounds.

You can hardly blame the "intern"... I mean if I'd picked up the phone and gotten that question, I'd immediately conclude that some 12 year old kid was prank-calling me.

Incidentally, this is probably the funniest thing I've seen all year. Not the names themselves, but that a news organization was in such a hurry to get this out the door that they didn't even think about it... I'm still "rlol" all these hours later.

Not only do I not blame what is very likely an imaginary "intern" (and, hence, my comment about convenience), I lay the blame fully upon yet another entirely over-funded, probably unneeded, incompetent government institution, which spends incredible amounts of organizational time (and my tax dollars) figuring out how to blame-shift in the most politically correct manner possible, rather than actually accomplishing any real work. In other words, the near-instant NTSB response only added to my amusement at the video.
