They could always bring back the chair, or public hangings.

Firing squad would do as well. Quick, cheap, foolproof.

Edited to add.

I really don't get why this is so hard. Give the condemned a lethal overdose of anesthetic and call it a day. Druggies manage to kill themselves all the time, do what they do.

Only if it was maintained properly. Apparently if the wood warped a bit or if the blade wasn't sharpened pretty regularly, it could take a few tries.
I am not a lawyer, nor have I played one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, nor should anything I say be taken as legal advice. If it is important that any information be accurate, do not use me as the only source.

Wouldn't need to use wood anymore. Sharpen before each use?

Its on Fox News right now. They claim it was a new drug and he had a ruptured vein.

After what he did to the victim, I'm not remorseful of his slight suffering.

Madame guillotine was pretty bloody. Our society is squeamish.

I like the volcano idea.

My wife's first comment, and she not usually very "bloodthirsty" was that they should have let the punishment fit the crime and shot him with a shotgun before burying him alive.

Again we agree.

Maybe the libs would approve of a heroin overdose execution?
And for the benefit of the extreme right we can call it "riding the lightning".

IMO, we need to fix the problem with the way we're doing it.
If we need some chemicals that the Europeans refuse to sell us, authorize and indemnify an American company to produce them.
IMO, I'd rather be stood up and shot than laid down an poisoned. YMMV.

I have zero sympathy for the condemned.
My only concern is that it really should be done better. We look like idiots. And that further diminishes the dissuasion factor.
