I work as a nurse and I just like to share stats that we recieve in the hospital. Once again the top three abused substances in the US are Tobacco, Alcohol and prescription pain kills. I see the abuse of prescription drugs first hand and the majority of people are not poor, homeless or jobless individuals.
Where is the outrage over tobacco and Alcohol? The monetary cost is Huge as well!

I think its the fact that alcohol and tobacco have been around for centuries. They are ingrained into almost all societies. I used smoke and I still enjoy a drink. I will say pills are becoming a serious problem in college. So many kids rely on addarol (sp?) to study for tests and to stay up late during parties.

Are those CDC numbers? The CDC's web site lists 88,000 alcohol related deaths per year from 2006 thru 2010. Part of the reason I ask is that that study includes violence and motor vehicle wreck due to excessive alcohol consumption, but they don't seem to split it out into those that were drunken rage or those that were drunken wreck, and that makes me wonder if they just lump all of them together, and if any of the motor vehicle wrecks attributed separately as being fatal were also counted as alcohol related. It would indeed be hard to OD and die on pot, but I know of one fatality motor vehicle wreck that was the direct result of pot consumption, and would like to know where they counted it.

Adaboy5, I have some problems with the way that those statistics are compiled and by the CDC of all groups. My main disagreement concerns firearms related fatalities because they way they are all lumped together, if the death occurred during the commission of a crime then the death shouldn't be attributable to a firearm but rather the commission of the crime because really just like tobacco death if you didn't do the crime you wouldn't have gotten shot and more than if you hadn't smoked that cigarette then the ammonia wouldn't have degraded the surfactant in your lungs thereby killing the cilia and causing chronic emphysema or bronchitis and allowing the lung tissue to develop non alveolar air pockets and allowing hardening of the lungs. The CDC is the worst group to report anything except infectious disease information, no matter what it is because any more everything is considered a disease or pandemic according to the libtard doctors in that august peerage

Your statistics state thar marihuana has caused no deaths. I must strongly disagree. Back in the 1940's and 50's Diabetes didn't cause death either, it only contributed to them. Alcohol doesn't cause deaths either but it contributes to them in many ways. Does marihuana effect a persons depth perception, like alcohol? Does marihuana cause a feeling of utopia for some people, like alcohol can? With some people does marihuana induce an "I can do this" feeling when the person is incapable, like alcohol can? Does marihuana reduce inhibitions, like a cool does? If you have enough marihuana can you "not remember" what you did, like with alcohol?

Acetominophen (Tylenol is the trademark name) has apparently resulted in the death of 1,500 people between 2001 and 2010, has been related to 33,000 hospitalizations per year, and is the leading cause of acute liver failure. The FDA has mandate the decrease of acetominophen when used in combination with other drugs such as hydrocodone. The "Tylenol" part may be more dangerous than the addicting narcotic part, especially as people become addicted and increase their use of the drug and wipe out their livers, probably why the FDA stepped in.
When I took microbiology in college a million years ago I was taught that one thimble full of pure botulism poison was enough to kill everyone on the planet. Perhaps that was true. Natural "meds" are dangerous too. Shall we pick some mushrooms?

These are numbers that are shared with us. Please update as needed. I just like to keep people informed. It's astounding how many people die from the abuse period. As far as the gun deaths I believe it's all lumped together how death occurred. Sorry for the bad typing I'm using a tablet and it's different. We need to pass this type of information around keep people aware!
Firearms - they inflate the numbers
Pot - they deflate the numbers
What is the liberal agenda again?

I guess if somebody wants to believe these as actual statistics it is up to them. Seems that it is all agenda based and how the CDC decides to classify them. I guess if somebody gets stoned out of their mind and crashes a vehicle it is a car accident and not pot related. Do they count drunk driving deaths as alcohol related? People can make statistics anything they want them to be, just depends on what criteria they use and do not use.

"alcohol doesn't cause deaths either". I guess you've never heard of alcohol poisoning? Plenty of people die every year from drinking too much at one time but I've never heard of someone dying from doing too much pot. All of your other questions are eliminated by the testing done on someone when they show up to the ER after those famous "watch this" moments.

Yes you can die from alcohol poisoning. A person can also die from ingesting to much salt water. The point I am trying ti make is that some things are more of a contributing factor.
In the 40 and 50 diabetes was not considered to be what killed people, although it did make a person more susceptible to other problems and amplified them.
Alcohol can cause problems both mentally and physically. Alcohol can cause parts of the body not to function properly (sorosis of the liver). It can impede a persons judgement. It can cause personality changes. How many have seen the person that would't harm a butterfly when sober, but will fight brutally with anyone that gets in their way when drunk?
Has marihuana been tested yet to see what heavy use does to a person both mentally and physically? We know it impairs judgement when used. I've seen smokers walk into things and observed one talking to a parking meter.
I'm just saying all the facts are not there. I have seen videos of students driving a course in a parking lot after consuming multiple shots of alcohol. Here is one with marihuana. " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Q: And the point to this video was????
A: Let Addy drive!
She arrived 3x the legal limit before smoking anything. Then all of the
test subjects had to smoke 3 bowls to even have anything wrong with their
skills. And poor Addy had to smoke another pipe full to even get a buzz.
I do get “buzzed driving” is wrong no matter what the substance. But, this
video only proves you have to smoke A LOT of pot to clip a few safety cones.
Wonder how many cones would be clipped by a driver under the influence of alcohol
that was 3x, 5x, 7x the legal limit ? Maybe 0, because they might be dead from alcohol
poisoning.
And while Americans are getting drunk and stoned (on whatever), our enemies are sitting around figuring out ways of getting rid of us. I'm not against having a good time, so don't mistake me for some hard-core type. I just think that even needing to have a discussion about the subject shows how bad a shape this nation is really in.
