R.I.P. Merle. :cryin
I have been a fan since I first heard him sing when I was a kid. was fortunate enough to see him in concert a couple of times. A lot of singers today were influenced by him. Prayers for his friends and family. He will be missed.

Saw that this morning. One of the few remaining country singers IMHO. Sad to see him gone.

Merle Haggard had a checkered youth, but later redeemed himself. He was a good American, and incredibly influential as a country musician, may he rest in peace.

Absolute bummer to hear of this. Listening to his music, along with a lot of the other country greats, growing up I was very familiar with Merle and loved his music. I was lucky enough to see him play in Dallas this past November and he sounded great. It's impossible for me to hear a Merle, George Jones, Waylon or Johnny Cash song without thinking about my pops. Sleep well, Merle

I ran across this the other day:
Merle Haggard was pardoned by then-California Governor Ronald Reagan after a lengthy appeal process.
He’d later say he was shocked by the pardon, as he had no idea it was coming.
“They found that I was improperly convicted and had no representation because
I was poor and things of that nature,” Haggard told CMT shortly after the president’s death in 2004.
