Knife Rights’ bipartisan Texas Knife Law Reform Bill, HB 1935, that would repeal the ban on ALL “illegal knives” in Texas statutes, has passed out of the House Criminal Jurisprudence Committee by a unanimous vote and is now headed to the Calendars Committee. HB 790, the other knife law reform bill that only repeals the ban on daggers, also passed out of the Committee.

This is the best news I have heard from the Lege this session.
I have long maintained that the whole "illegal" knife restrictions were at best arbitrary, and at worst the most ridiculously, written laws on the books. I hope this will also eliminate the stupid policies in schools where kids have been suspended for just bringing a paring knife, or butter knife to school in their lunch boxes.
Looking forward to strapping on my swords and proudly walking the streets of Texas!!

Well, I sure hope this one goes through. I've long stated my irritation with the line about lower case b "bowie" knives, since it leaves way too much open to interpretation. And, like gun control laws, knife laws do little to nothing (emphasis on nothing) to stop those who intend to commit crimes using knives in the first place. I don't care about spears or swords, but I certainly would like to wear my Baby K-Bar out and about.

WildBill,
Nah, I'm not much of a dirk hunter.
bigtek,
Nah again, my little poniard was a Shetland with aspirations to be a Shakespearian thespian...but sadly was sold to a 3rd rate circus to orate in circles forever more...

I am happy to see this bill pass out of committee with such strong support.
I am looking forward to it passing, getting signed by Gov Abbott and becoming law.
It's about time for these archaic laws to be repealed.

I just bought a nice KaBar I would like to carry once or twice just for grins. It would be nice to have my tactical tomahawk in my truck when I travel to dispatch any zombies I encounter.

I'm thinking a Katana like Michonne in The Walking Dead. Also, I've got a bayonet on my SKS rifle that may meet the definition of an illegal knife currently. Also, swords are underrated these days. I'd like a really sharp Roman style one like those that were common when Jesus walked the Earth.
