Shotgun Smith Recommendations
Hi folks,
I brought home the family shotgun recently. It’s just an old Stevens pump so worth more sentimentally than financially. That said, it’s about 90 years old and spent most of those years out on the farm and so could use a good bit of TLC on the finish and furniture.
Do y’all have any recommendations for a good gunsmith to Go over it, refinish and make it good for another 90 years of family service?
Edit: added picture

The Stevens model 520 is a joy to hold. It has a great take down feature and is light. I've had 2 of them although they weren't sporting shotguns. A beautiful shotgun. One of my favorites!

Might even try Larry Feland with Feland's gunsmithing.

Those are really the only two answers (Briley and Feland) for Houston that I give to customers asking about shotgun work. Be curious if anybody knows of a third?

Re: Shotgun Smith Recommendations
Dropped off the old girl this morning. Pricey :) could have picked up a new Browning on just the deposit.
We’ll see how it turns out later this year.
Clean & Inspect to start. Then bring the steel back to a satin polish & re-blue (slow rust). New stock (the one on it is incorrect and damaged). Strip the fore end. Clean up the checkering (and checker the new stock). Refinish the wood to high polish.
Should be better than new when completed and last a few more generations.

Re: Shotgun Smith Recommendations
Ed Vanden Burg (south side of Houston) put screw in choke tubes on two 870 18 inch barrels for me and did a perfect job. He has also done trigger work on my 1911s and it was superb. Might want to talk to him as well. He has a web site.
Re: Shotgun Smith Recommendations
Feland is exceptional, but he may be more than what you need.
