Does anyone know if there are any ranges in the area that will let you shoot milsurp ammo (green tips)? There are a number of great deals online right now for bulk ammo and I am thinking of pulling the trigger on some.

Elm Fork has a brand new 50 yard range where you can shoot FMJ, and optics are optional. I've shot an AR and an M1A with magnified optics there. It's a little more complicated, but all you have to do to get a 100 yard zero is know what height the ballistic chart says you bullet should be at at 50 yards on its way to 100 yards. For instance, if the bullet should be 2" above the line of sight (more correctly, the bore line) at 50 yards, then aim at the bullseye and adjust util your bullets are impacting 2" above your point of aim. There's your 100 yard zero. I wouldn't rely on that method to shoot accurately to 500 yards, but for 100 yards you should be fine.

Really?? I'll have to go back up there now. I was there a couple weeks ago but I was only shooting 100yd. I wonder when they're going to have 100yd allowing FMJ. Do you know how many lanes they have for rifle FMJ?

The tactical bay has 8-10 lanes and new 50 yard range has maybe 15 lanes. I think. Plenty of lanes for FMJ

Since you enjoy your scope setup, if you do end up getting BUIS in the future, perhaps you can look at some offset irons.

I was thinking about this suggestion today, would a CQB red dot on an offset be a good move for this rifle? If I ever had to shoot at targets inside of 25 yds would this be accurate enough to get the job done? I assume that if the red dot is offset to the left of my scope the POI will drift left/right if I am not at exactly my zeroed distance. Does anyone currently have a similar setup?

There is also so a piggy-back mount for most 30mm rifle scopes that will mount a small Dr. Optic red dot reflex type sight at an angle similar to the angle of those iron sights I posted earlier.

I modified my rifle a little bit the other day. I added a cheapo NCStar QR mount for the scope and put a new gas block on it. My next project is to add some BUIS under the scope now that there is some room. I am trying to decide on what brand of BUIS. I really want a folding sight to which I can add a tritium front sight post. I wired up a pressure switch on the flashlight, but now I need to shorten the cable and mount it somewhere I can activate it easily. Ideas? EDIT: I will probably move the light to the right side of the rail so my sights will work.

I never found a good place to put the pressure switch so i mount my lights where my left thumb can activate it when in firing position. Plus there is no cable clutter.
