Re: Budget 308 bolt gun
I have a savage axis .308 with a Nikon scope. Damn good shooting gun and accurate as the savage reputation! Got my limit on whitetail last year and the fell where they stood at impact!

"You can say 'stop' or 'alto' or use any other word you think will work but I've found that a large bore muzzle pointed at someone's head is pretty much the universal language."

Re: Budget 308 bolt gun
I got a Savage Axis in .308 and 30.06 for leaving in the four wheeler at the ranch. $269 at Walmart. They do what they are supposed to with nothing fancy. I'm not worried about banging them around. I have a model 10 in .308 with all the goodies and the long barrel, the only difference I can see is the Accutrigger. The one on the Axis works just fine, maybe closer to 5# rather than 3.5#. It goes bang when you pull it. The barrels on all of them are free float. Accuracy is great.
