Don't know the caliber of the Remington. The pistol list includes:
Hi Standard .22 LR 9 shot
Ruger single six .22 LR
American Arms (Italy) .44 mag
Dan Wesson Arms .357
S&W .22
S&W 29, .44
Excam derringer model TA .38

I would second this option. Everyone I have heard of who has dealt with them (granted, not too many) has been very happy with the results. Give them a call.

If it does get broken down and sold piece by piece, you've got an interested buyer right here! I've been looking for a Remington 1100.

IMO Your friend needs to ask that they be handed down to all/some of the owners children. Unless there are dire circumstances where money is an issue, I would be ticked if my fathers guns where just sold off by his wife or anyone else for that matter.

My grandfather and grandmothers guns are in the care of my father, sister, and myself, and I'd be darned if anyone else took them, and they tried believe you me!

I know several of the children and I think they would have already put in a request for those with sentimental value. There was another list of the possible 'keepers' that I did not include (I would think these would pass down to the kids eventually). I think the money would be a big help to the family at the moment given the economy and his health (which is in a steady decline).

I did send a note about the interest in some and my friend said she would share the info.
