I'm not a fan of Del-ton...

I'm new to the whole AR-15 build thing too and hopefully will be building my first soon. So I really appreciate you starting this post (and your others) as they have been very informative.

Looking at your new list, If you are going with those hand guards and gas block, you'll probably need a different barrel. The one you have now is carbine length...you would need a barrel with mid-length gas port cut. Or you could change the rail and gas block (low profile) and keep the gas system carbine if that’s what you want. I have decided to go with the ML barrel option because of what I've read here and elsewhere about the gas systems. Below are examples of the two barrels I will probably get.

or

Hope this helps from one noob to another :cheers2: If I'm wrong, hopefully someone will correct me soon.

Thanks for the response..Since mt total isnt too much i'll change the barrel. I've been super eager to build my AR for months. I went to ar15buider.com and got the major grasp from there.

And the spiker barrel only shoots 5.56? right? Which ammo cal is the more expensive in the long run? .223 or 5.56.

It's a lit like .357/.38

A 5.56 will shoot either, a .223 barrel may choke on 5.56 stuff.

Okay, so 5.56 can shoot .223, but a .223 barrel doesn't shoot 5.56 well.
well thanks for all the tips

You can shoot .223 thru a 5.56 barrel….just not supposed to do it the other way around. The 556 barrel just gives you the option to shoot both.

If you are going to go Magpul MOE, I would skip the Del-Ton ($60), the DD tube kit ($55), the Brownelles MOE stock ($60) and just go with THIS. You will save at least $40. Palmetto has pretty much all of the parts you are looking for at one place so you can also save by not having to pay shipping to 10 different sites.
