Mossberg 500 Upgrade project: FINISHED!!

#1

Post by trentwhite778 »

Hey guys, this is my first post in the rifle/shotgun section. I have a standard Mossy 500 that my employer bought me for Christmas last year. I have yet to shoot it but hopefully I'll get to soon.
Anyway, I have been wanting to do some pretty heavy customization to it for a while now and I finally bit the bullet and ordered some parts. I know this is not everyone's cup of tea and I'm fully aware that it will be a bit over the top. But this is purely just for fun for me. I'm honestly doing this because I just wanted a fun project and because I know it will get some crazy reactions from people.
I have my serious guns. This will be my fun gun.

I'll be documenting the progress here as parts start coming in.

Here's the stock image of the Mossberg 500 as it looks right out of the box.

So far, all I've done is remove the stock in preparations for the new parts to start coming in over the next few days.

I will be watching. I have a stock 500A with both the 28" ribbed vented barrel and the 18.5" home defense barrel. Interested in what you have planned.

:thumbs2: I'm in the process of doing the same for my Mossberg Maverick 88 security model. What stock are you putting on? I'm ordering the Pheonix Technology tactical stock.

and here we go! The first part was delivered this morning.
the Halo Heatshield from ATI.
I have to say that the packaging and presentation of this item is really well done. I was not expecting that. the box is in a really nice sleeve with embossed graphics and features a magnetic closure and a flip top. The heatshield and all the hardware are encased in foam. very nice.

There is a few great youtube video showing detail instructions on how to install that heatshield and will help you avoid some of the pitfalls that snared so many others. I'm thinking about installing that on mine too.

Cool looking stuff. I'll be looking forward to the completed pictures and your opinion of the pistol grip.

I stayed with the standard stock because I'd heard that pistol grips on shotguns weren't all that comfortable.

Well, of course I haven't shot with it yet, but so far, I'm loving this stock. It extends to just a tad longer than the factory stock and adjust in from there so you can get it as comfortable as you want. it's got soft rubber padding on both the butt and the back of the pistol grip. I'll definitely let you know after I take it out next weekend.

Again, ATI's packaging is very nice.

And with the new 5 sided forend. The magpul fore grip is just positioned. I thought I read that the forend came with rails but it didn't so I have to order some.

I'm not a fan of pistol grip stocks on Mossbergs due to the tang safety. I had to deal with them at my old job. My personal (Mossberg) Maverick 88 has a pistol grip Knoxx stock, but the safety is on the trigger guard.

Would you be interested in selling the original ribbed foreend? Mine has the Field foreend that doesn't have the best grip.

What would you need more rails for? I already see a light.

BTW, looks sharp.
