I purchased a Bushmaster QRC with the red dot optic at the gunshow recently, got a great deal on it. its a nicely built rifle. my only problem is it not having regular iron sights. it does not have a front sight post or the rail on the gas block to put a flip up one. im considering getting a free float handgaurd and putting a sight up front with that. considering this is a carbine length rifle, what size would be right to go over the gas block that it currently has? also id like to change the stock, and not sure if these come with a commercial or mil spec buffer tube? cant seem to find much info on the QRC. any help would be appreciated. or if youve got the same rifle and put on different sites id like to know what route you went.

You can put a rifle length handguard on a 16" rifle. You can put a mid-length handguard on a 16" rifle. You can put a carbine-length handguard on a 16" rifle:

Removing your buttstock and looking at the end of your tube is probably the easiest method, if you don't have calipers.

you could go as low as 10" on a carbine to cover the gas block. In any case I'd suggest a 12" FF hand guard maybe even a 15" based on my preference. I like Troy front and rear AR style BUIS.
You want the FF hand guard to cover the lo pro gas block and gas tube to keep it protected.
Looking at pictures of the QRC it has a chopped down FSP gas block with a bayonet lug. you might be able to find a drop in rail kit to fit over this type gas block but I'd suggest switching to a FSP block and rear flip BUIS or LO PRO gas block with flip BUIS and FF quad rail.
