Boy suspended from school for drawing a pistol

In the late 50's I took my 44mag to school and carried it to several different classes to show the teachers. It was not a big deal.

Today a kid draws a picture of a pistol (and not a very good one either) and he gets thrown out of school.

Yep, this country has really changed for the better!! My generation should have our tails kicked for what we have allowed to take place in the US.

If I lived in that district...I would go to the next schoolboard meeting and draw me up a little picture, get my 3 minutes to talk, walk up to the mic and just stand there with the picture I just drew (making sure they all saw it)...For 3 minutes...Or however long they gave me to talk...

Flat out bunch of idiots to let this go that far...

MAN...this disgusts me, i have two daughters of my own and if they ever got sent home from school for something that idiotic i would raise the biggest stink our city has ever seen.

When i was a kid we used to build guns out of legos and chase eachother around the classroom, people are so frickin' ignorant it makes me vomit in real life.

I would have been suspended MANY times for drawing a pic of a gun in school...too bad the liberals (pronounced communists) have taken everything too far...

We've come a long way haven't we?....When I graduated High School in the late 60's, we had a "Western Party" instead of prom. It was held in the High School Cafeteria. Most of the guys had some type gun strapped to their hip. (mostly toy, but there were a few real ones)...Today's school officials would have stroked out....You know, there were no school shootings that night or for several decades....

Trigger lock of course, you can't have a Proton Accelerating Ray Gun just laying around in an unsafe condition...(something to do with subatomic particles).

I'm sure I'll get slammed for this, but I'd like to offer a different angle to this.

Please remember that the news media likes to distort things. It keeps readers interested if they can embellish it or conveniently leave things out.

Most of my students know that I shoot for recreational purposes. They often tell me about their favorite guns; some even bring in targets to show me.

On my campus, I don't see where it would be a problem if the average student were to draw a gun. However, not all students are average. I have seen some twisted little boogers in my tenure as a middle school special ed teacher. Although rare, I have taught students that I suspect of being either psychopaths or sociopaths. If one of these students were to draw a gun, my antennae would likely come up.
Also, I've seen distrubed children draw pictures or make gestures that may seem innocent, but it turns out to be a veiled threat at other students.

Again, most students aren't drawing guns to make threats, but there is a small minority that would. When we look at it as school personnel, we look particularly close at who the artist is.
I hope I've made sense.

Judge Dredd was on TV last night when all of a sudden I recognized the Lawmaker...



Could it be that this kid was watching a movie and copied what he saw? It's not even a realistic gun? What if he was watching Star Wars and drew a Tie Fighter, or forbid, the Death Star.

I'm drafting my email now and will be sending it out in support of this child and his family.
