When will we have OH reciprocity?

It seems that TX should have reciprocity with OH, based on the laws of other states. OH just passed their new CCW law rather recently, so the powers that be probably haven't gotten around to discussing it yet. Exactly what can be done to get them motivated?

Howdy and welcome! Interesting first post.

My suggestion would be to send an inquiry to the Attorney General and/or Governor. They are the ones that work on these things.

I have no knowledge of the Ohio CHL law so I don't know if it would work...

Heard that OH is hung up on TX letting current military under 21 get a CHL...don't know if this is a or the stopping point, just something I read somewhere....

I got a FL non-resident permit just to cover me when we head to OH for the holidays. Very painless application process (no class required), except on the wallet, and less than 30 days door to door...

I'm pretty sure this is the problem with Washington reciprocity too.

Get a non-resident Utah license and you are covered. I also believe you pick up Nevada and Washington. I don't think they can make an exception for the age unless Texas law is actually changed. I would like to know just how many military people under 21 have a CHL in those states. I am betting it is a small number. I also bet that if we had reciprocity with them but excluded anyone under 21, that the vast majority of cops would not notice the age thing if they had a valid license that was recognized by Texas.

There is one Utah instructor here I can vouch for if you live up in the DFW area...

I have to put in a plug for Florida as well. You go online, request an application, fill it out (it's two pages), get printed, send money and a Xerox of your Texas TR-100, and in no time at all you will have a five year license to carry. I got it in 11 days. I've seen even shorter wait times. Worst case scenario wait time is a month -- I remember reading that Utah was taking 6-7x that long to crank 'em out. Unless you enjoy sitting through another training class (and spending the money, travel time, etc.) I think the Florida license is the way to go. If you need coverage in one of the Utah-covered states that Florida doesn't also cover, then by all means go that route, but if the states you frequent honor Florida's license I just don't see the point. Too much hassle compared to Florida.

Florida's CWP operation is a well-oiled machine that I wish other states would follow. They really have a great licensing unit in place. If all you need is Ohio, don't overlook the sunshine state.

Or.......you can look up "Marty" on this forum....I just finished his Utah class last week and it was enjoyable as these things can be. He was very knowledgeable and everything was done professionally. Doesn't get better than that.
