In 2007, they comprised about 4.67 percent of the estimated 4,687,000 adult Tennesseans ages 18 and older, according to U.S. Census Bureau estimates. No 2007 data on how many adult Tennesseans who are 21 and above was available.

Actually, you will find Tennessee is a very rural state for the most part. Folks living there tend to be hunters and fishermen and are into outdoor sports, so that leads to a more gun friendly population as a whole.

As a native born Tennessean and a graduate of the University of Tennessee ('67) I have to agree with Keith's observation above. That said, my brother in Nashville was somewhat astounded when I showed him my CHL and described the ordeal of acquisition in Texas.

I think Tennessee's, like Alabama's and Colorado's, CCW licensing process is not much more than a 4473 background search and a check to the local sherrif resulting in a little cardboard wallet card sans photo. If I'm correct, why doesn't everyone in these three states, at least, have a CCW permit?
