Getting a Florida license

#1

Post by Doug.38PR »

I am going to be moving to Louisiana before the year is out, maybe even before summer is out. I have decided to apply to for a Florida license as you have to wait 6 months before even applying in Louisiana once you have moved there to get their licences (besides their reciprocity isn't as good). If I get a florida license here in Texas now, I can use it in Louisiana and only have to get Florida to send me a new license with a changed address within 30 days of my having moved. I thought about even keeping my Texas CHL and having duel residencies (I am moving from my parent's home, so it is no real cost to me) so I can keep using my Texas CHL. But overall I am told the ultimate thing to do is get a Florida license.

Only problem is......you now have to go all the way downtown to do fingerprinting (*ugh*)

Think I'll just take care of it in Marshall where I work.

Why not just keep your Texas CHL? We have reciprocity with LA, and you don't need to be a Texas resident to have a Texas CHL.

Some states wont honor out of state permits for Residents. I don't know if Louisiana is that way or not. But you may not be covered once you get your Louisiana residency. If they allowed people to just get out of state permits then everyone would just get Foridia and New Hampture permits, and not bother with their own states permit. Just something you should check out, if you haven't already.

I didn't know this???? I might just keep my Texas CHL and get a Florida for when I go to Alabama.

mschadt,
Louisiana does recognize Florida non resident licenses. A lot of people there get them because they have better reciprocity than Louisiana's own CHL

I guess that if that was the case, then a Florida License would not help him in LA either. This was his statement
