Member llwatson's UTAH CHL class
Any updates? Cost?
Any issues being a Texas Resident living in Texas but carrying with a UTAH CHL?
Thanks.

there was another thread about Utah, and I brought it up. She mentioned that she was talking the class on the 13th, and around 2 weeks afterwards she should be certified:

The Utah DPS instructors said they had not heard of any non-resident having problems carrying with a Utah license, but the only way they would know is if someone got arrested. Anytime a license holder is arrested, the issuing authority is notified in the event the license needs to be suspended or revoked.
The only problem I could foresee is that some states do not allow you to carry in their state with a non-resident license. Texas is not one of those. If you meet the requirements of the license, resident or non, the license is valid in Texas.

I assume you mean the instructor's class? Hubby and I took the class in St. George instead of Salt Lake City. The 2 DPS instructors teaching had not done a road trip before, so they were not prepared to do photos or notary work as the website had promised. I expect you will get the full package in SLC. We went with fingerprints already done, and then found out instructors didn't need prints.cxm wrote:Can you provide more information on the class? I expect to fly up shortly.

Make sure you have a copy of your driver's license and Texas CHL, though. Also make sure you have a copy of your NRA instructor certificate. You must be either NRA or POST certified.
The class was only 4 hours long, from 10:00 to 2:00. Definitely not as much info as the Texas CHL Instructors class, but there is not as much to teach either. In my opinion, they could have spent more time on the Utah laws.
They do not provide a lesson plan for you, but cover the minimum areas that must be taught. It appears to me that a Texas CHL renewal class covers pretty much all of it except Utah firearms statutes. They certainly don't seem to be as particular as Texas is about how you teach, how long you take, or what media you use. They did specify that you must be present to teach the class. Seems they had someone doing online classes, and they weren't too pleased.
That's about all I know. I'm just waiting on my instructor number so I can get my stamp made. You are already a Utah instructor, right? Just renewing? Can you tell me where you got the stamp made and how long that took?
