Wanna be a NYPD recruit? Surrender your license and guns...
I've been following a gunny forum based on Long Island, NY. Some of you, particularly LEOs, may find it interesting how they do things back east...
If I understand it correctly, before you can be accepted into the police academy to become a NYPD officer, you have to give up any gun license you have, plus all your guns. You may not own any firearms while at the academy. (I could see, perhaps, not having your own private stash AT the academy, but you can't have them at home either...)
The thread is here: http://www.longislandfirearms.com/forum ... new/#num15" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Short course: young man is hoping to go to NYPD academy. He has to document that he has surrendered his gun license (remember, in NY to have a gun you have to have a license) and either surrendered or transferred any firearms he owns. Apparently if he completes the course, he can get his guns back after graduation. Not clear to me, but he may not get the license back, but his status as police officer will let him carry and have guns? Not entirely sure.
HIs question is whether he will get his license back if he does NOT complete the academy. Answer not known on that.
He ended up giving his license to the Suffolk County Police Department, who gave him a form or voucher to show the NYPD. He transferred his guns to friend and got a notarized letter documenting this.

Sounds like selling all products with Leaven in them to a Gentile for a week or so, then buying them back at a certain time of year.

Maybe they'll issue them funny looking hats and little batons, instead of guns. They might even start speaking w/ a british accent.
We can call them "bloomies."

Funny when we do our annual qualification we're encouraged to bring our own guns for some free range time.

NYC is a place for idiots to live. I have been through it 4 times. To La Guardia twice and all the way through twice without stopping unless the traffic slowed down that far. I have absolutely no inclination to return unless the SCOTUS strikes down ALL anti gun laws and we go back to constitutional carry in all 50 states and the territories/protectorates. That includes Samoa, Guam, Wake Island, Midway, Puerto Rico, U.S.V.I., D.C. etc.. Then I might consider a visit to Liberty Island and Ellis Island. The rest of the city and the state and all of NJ can take a flying leap at a rolling doughnut.

I would like to know how many crimes each (murder, rape, robery,etc.) this bureau has caused to be solved.ELB wrote:I've been following a gunny forum based on Long Island, NY. Some of you, particularly LEOs, may find it interesting how they do things back east...

Thinking about it a little and I wonder if this is to prevent recruits from pretending to be officers before they really are. I don't agree with it, but I wonder if that's the reason. I, too, am concerned about the return of the license whether or not the recruit graduates.
I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.
