Florida...here's a twist....

Florida doesn't differentiate between resident and non-resident permits, they issue a Concealed Weapon Permit to anyone that meets their qualifications, regardless of state of residence.

However, my understanding is that Florida doesn't RECOGNIZE non-resident permits. For example, if you live in Texas, they will only recognize your Texas permit, not your Utah, New Hampshire, or whatever.

I live in Louisiana. Would this mean that my FLORIDA permit might possibly not be recognized by Florida, even though I legally carry in my home state on their permit?

I opted for the Florida permit on the advice of my CHL instructor here in Louisiana, because at the time the Louisiana permit wasn't honored by our northern neighbor, Arkansas, and also because Louisiana tacks on a $50 surcharge to new applications if you haven't been in the state for at least 15 years.

Interesting point to ponder.

If Florida does not differentiate between its own resident and non-resident permits, how could they not recognize the one they issued to you? If they issue you a non-resident permit, it isn't because they want to enable you to carry in jurisdictions besides their own.

To carry in Florida if you are not from a state that Florida recognizes, you must get a Florida permit. For example, Florida does not recognize Washington state or Nevada. To carry in Florida, you would need a Florida permit. If you are from Texas, you can carry in Florida on your Texas license, but you must be from Texas. It is the way Florida set up their system. You must be from a state that Florida recognizes, or you must get a Florida license.

IANAL, but I'm quite sure that Florida honors all permits issued by the State of Florida, no matter where the holder of the permit lives.
