Nevada gun laws
I am trying to find info on gun laws for Nevada. I have been told that they limit the number of rounds in the mag to 10. But I can not find this info anywhere online. I am hoping that it is not ture, but if it is I would just like to see it in writing.
I am also looking for laws that might not allow weapons in the city limits or town limits. Again I have been told that there are a few towns and cities that do not allow weapons inside of the city or town limits. I hope that this is not right, but I would just like to see it in writing.
I know that I should belive everything that I am told, but it came from someone that I trust. I would just like to see it in writing if it is true.
I have been looking for 3 days now.
Thanks for any help.

Re: Nevada gun laws
It depends on what city you are asking about. Boulder City may be the worst but there are a few other cities in Nevada with gun laws more restrictive than the state laws, but none limit magazines to 10 - thats california.
What exactly are your questions? Im not claiming to be a nevada gun law expert, but I lived and carried there for a while so I have some of the answers you might be seeking.
Good luck. =)

Re: Nevada gun laws
I just realized that I didnt answer the questions completely, I sort of stopped mid thought.
Boulder City does restrict loaded weapons within their city limits. Its an old law saying basically that any weapons in town need to be broken down (dealt mostly with shotguns when it was written) but they can not update any of their gun laws or the state laws will supercede the new laws and they would rather keep their own laws than allow the state ones to rule. Similar situation in North Las Vegas where its illegal to carry a loaded gun in the car. Nevada CHL holders are exempt from that one IF the weapon is in a holster on your person only.
The laws there are sometimes strange. Its legal to open carry in Nevada, but dont try it anywhere in Clark county (las vegas area) or you will find out what 130 degree pavement feels like. Its not illegal there but they dont like it anyway. =)
I have never heard of a CHL holder being prosecuted for any of the city laws, but I spoke with Boulder City and NLV cops about them while I lived there and they said they would use them as a reason to make you uncomfortable for a while, even if they didnt prosecute. The Boulder City cop said the slide should be removed from any semi-autos in Boulder. I just avoided that town. Strange place, even gambling is illegal in Boulder City.

I will be going to Las Vegas later this year. We will be driving there. Sorry, I should have said that in my first post.
With Boulder City, how can I get from the Texas side of Boulder City to Las Vegas, and still have my weapon on me in the car? The others on the trip want to stop at the dam. Do I need to stop before the dam and lock the weapon in the trunk?
Glad to hear about the no round limit on mags.

The dam (U.S. Reclamation Service) and Lake Mead Recreation Area (National Park Service) are both under the anti-gun Department of the Interior. Same rules apply as at any national park.chewy555 wrote: The others on the trip want to stop at the dam. Do I need to stop before the dam and lock the weapon in the trunk?

Re: Nevada gun laws
With this I guess that If we get out of the car at the dam I have to leave the weapon in the car? Then I guess I will leave it locked up out of reach as we leave for the drive through Boulder City on towards Las Vegas.KBCraig wrote:The dam (U.S. Reclamation Service) and Lake Mead Recreation Area (National Park Service) are both under the anti-gun Department of the Interior. I know that I should know this, but I have not been to a National Park since I got my CHL.
I guess that Casinos are off limits. But what about going in and out of the hotel but not into the casino, can I have the weapon on me?

Re: Nevada gun laws
Here are the 'prohibited place' laws for Nevada. It looks to me that only some restrictions apply and those are for public buildings (government owned.) I can't find anything anywhere that prohibits you otherwise (like 30.06 or gun-busters signs), but there may be rules I am not finding. Best bet is to call the sheriff's office and see if they have any additional rules on prohibited places.chewy555 wrote: I guess that Casinos are off limits. Thanks for posting this. It looks to me as I will be good to go with the weapon on me as I walk through the hotel as long as there is no sign posted saying no firearms allowed.Keith B wrote:Here are the 'prohibited place' laws for Nevada. Re: Nevada gun laws
I'd still like to know the CHL restrictions specifically for casinos. I am planning a vacation trip to Las Vegas and will be driving the Bullitt there. I do intend to have a safe in the trunk.
Can I even have a gun on the premises locked in my trunk? (I assume so)
Can I carry in the casino? (I assume not).
I am planning on visiting a gun range while I am in Las Vegas.
Thanks.

Re: Nevada gun laws
I think you missed the part that 'public building' is a government owned or leased facility per the guidelines. I can't find anywhere that private business can ban you legally. However, they may allow local ordinances to prohibit you from carrying, so best to check with the state or sheriff of the area you are going to be in to get some guidelines.

Your right, I did miss that part. I think you are also right, I need to make some phone calls to the local sheriff's offices to find out more details.Keith B wrote:I think you missed the part that 'public building' is a government owned or leased facility per the guidelines. I just hope that I can get a Utah CFP in time before the trip.

Re: Nevada gun laws
Casinos and other businesses may restrict your right to carry by posting a sign a each door saying they do not wish to have guns on the premises (gunbuster or any other sign that gets the point across is legal) BUT violation of that rule (IE passing the sign while armed) is punishable by a $25 trespassing ticket only.
None of the major casinos are posted.
When you pass thru hoover dam unload your magazines and lock up the gun somewhere. There are wackenhut checkpoints at each end, backed up by DOI police and they randomly check trunks etc...
