Tennessee Concealed Carry

#1

Post by Keith B »

I was in Tennessee yesterday. First time I had been there and armed. Before going, I researched the laws throughly.

While at Graceland, I looked closely for any signs prohibiting carry. They have a similar rule as Texas that a sign must be posted stating 'Per code blah blah blah......' and be prominently displayed and visible (no actual size, contrasting color, etc. guidelines.) Never saw any. However, they did check any bags you carried onto the bus to get into the mansion for tour.

However, one law they have should make you glad live in Texas. In Tennessee you can't carry into ANY restaurant that sells alcohol. I looked at both little grills they have there AND the snack bar; every one sells bottled beer, so had to go back to the parking lot and disarm before I could eat. :grumble

Just think about how many restaurants DON'T have alcohol. Most do, including some fast food places. You really have to be careful if you don't know before you go in a place to eat, otherwise you could be in violation of the law, which is a Class A misdemeanor and a $500 fine. For the evening meal, made sure we went to Cracker Barrel as I knew that one would be OK. Glad we have the 51% rule! :thumbs2:

When I left Tenn, there was a growing movement to change the law to restrict carrying only if the person was drinking (which I personally like better than 51%, because it applied to bars as well if you were just there for the music), and I've read recently that that movement actually got a bill drafted in the state legislature, only to be held up by the typical groups.
