We're fixin' to travel the Oregon coast and Columbia River gorge next month. As I read the Oregon info on the handgunlaw.us site, we are not only barred from CC but we can't even carry a handgun in the truck or the RV ??? :eek6

Somebody please tell us it ain't so.

It ain't so. OK I said it. ;-)

However, we do not have reciprocity with Oregon and they do not have car carry. Sooo, unless you are in a motorhome you can declare as a residence, then looks like you are going to have to unload it and keep is secured with ammo separate as best I can tell.

Like Keith I'll say "It ain't so."

You can carry a handgun in the truck in Oregon but you can't conceal a loaded gun without a license.

Upon further review, I find that Oregon is an open carry state. I reckon the pistol on the dashboard of the truck or on a string around my neck (outside of the shirt) is okay?

How do you carry in Texas? If you carry on the dashboard with a handkerchief concealing it or on a string on your neck inside your shirt, those might work okay for you in Oregon. On the other hand, if you carry in a holster in Texas then you can carry in a holster in Oregon also. Just don't hide it.

Unless you're ashamed of your carry gun. "rlol"

Thanks Boomer,

I think that after we leave the Redwoods in NW Kalifornia, we're going to pull into the first Sherrif's or OSP office we see in Oregon and seek clarification - that's what I think.

I'd really hate for some die-hard left-wing liberal OSP or Deputy Sherrif confiscating my LW Springer Compact .45 AND the other guns in the RV just because I'm a redneck gun-nut from Texas who didn't vote for Obama and/or legalized MaryJane on the left coast.

If we had Oregon's coast in Texas, this wouldn't be an issue or a question :banghead: .

I think you worry too much. Oregon passed "shall issue" concealed carry 5-6 years before Texas and prior to that they had "may issue" concealed carry licensing. Thunder Ranch also moved to Oregon from Texas and I don't think they would move to an antigun location.
Better. Not Bitter.

...and Oregon recognizes no other state's CHL...but may issue non-resident permits to the four (4) neighboring states...

I worry about how to carry openly - any suggestions?

You may be on to something...no kidding. For instance, how does one open carry in the car or truck? The "heater" will get hot on the dashboard - for sure.

I just came back from a road trip to Oregon 3 days ago. How the heck did I miss the OPEN CARRY part? Upon entering the state I unloaded my .40 and put it in the glovebox in our Honda Odyssey and I put my mags in the back away from the gun. It stayed that way until we got back to Idaho on the way home. I even visited a little gun shop while there and talked to someone about non-resident permits and things like that and confirmed that you must live in an adjacent state to qualify. At no time did the person behind the counter mention anything about open carry, and I didn't see anyone open carrying. Then again, the person I was talking to didn't seem THAT bright so this means nothing. It's a non-issue now that I'm home, but it would be nice to be able to carry my protection the next time I go there (which will be next year).
