I have a question for general (or even ongoing) discussion.
I have my Texas CHL which I got not too long ago. I have carried as much as possible (can't carry in/around/at work)...as most of you know the class was designed to teach you correct doctrines of when/where you can use deadly force.
Now lets say though I go on a trip from Texas to Florida (just as an example) and I would be passing through several states along the way.
Yes, its easy enough to find out if they have reciprocity to allow you to carry. That part is relatively easy. My question is about doctrine of use (should the need arise) in various states. Where can I go to find the basics of this kind of information?
Yes, I am sure some of the 'basics' are the same... IE if someone is clearly seeking bodily harm on you, particularly with a weapon, that part seems fairly simple. My question is more about the not so clear stuff.
Lets use the following example which may, or may not, be a good one to work with.
Example: If you pull up to a rest stop along the highway and an unarmed drunk comes up to you wanting to fight demanding your money. He's in between the bathroom where you are exiting and your car. He demonstrated capability to do you physical harm although it may not be 'deadly force' as there are no visible weapons. He is demanding your money simply because he's a mean drunk. He is 50 pounds heavier than you and is very aggressive.
My point is, in one state it may be legal to back this guy off and in other states you may have to take an ***whippin.
How do you know about 'doctrine' in a legal sense in different states? I am not asking about a specific incident (even the example) but rather for a resource (or discussion) on this topic.

Re: Other States Laws
If you shoot an unarmed man anywhere, your vacation is ruined. You may well be fired from your job after being indicted for a felony. You are in for years of misery and expenses that may bankrupt you.
That is why they make pepper spray.
You can study the statutes and case law in every state you plan to visit, but that is pretty much the bottom line.
Even in Texas, where unarmed robbery is technically grounds for use of deadly force, you are going to have a lot of explaining to do. Texas allows more justifications for the use of deadly force than any other state.

Fear, anger, hatred, and greed. The devil's all-you-can-eat buffet.
