Fabs, if you are serious, you need to join MADD, drunk driving kills more than guns 3X. Backyard pools kill more teens and toddler than all guns combined. What kind of irresponsible parents who have pools in their backyards??! All of those souls could be saved. Alas, you are dead, I am dead, we are all dead, it is just a matter of timings and no one knows when that happens.Fabs80 wrote:So sad to read such things here. We agree that there are hundreds or thousands (!!!) of deaths which could be avoided - parents, children or grand-parents. And you honestly want to argue that there is no problem?!? Every single one of them is a tragedy on its own!Pawpaw wrote:Here is the true impact of the "gun problem".
There are 312 million people in the US.
According to the CDC, there are roughly 32,000 deaths a year in the US and declining from Gun Violence.
This means you have a 0.00010256410256410300% chance of death by gun. (...)
America DOES NOT have a gun problem.
I have lived in the US for quite some time - and reading that makes me very sad. I am afraid you guys have a VERY SERIOUS gun problem...

Hmm, I bet you don't believe in climate change either(?). Evolution? Generally speaking it seems like we have to have some measurement to figure out if something can or is being improved. Every stat based on real data deserves some respect - agenda or not.chuck j wrote:You can keep your statistics , there are no true statistics just agendas . Someone said stats show we don't have a gun problem - maybe not, yet most agree that crazies should not have access to guns. What about people on the no-fly list? Should they be allowed to easily obtain a gun? [Let's assume the no-fly list is based on good data even though it no doubt can also be improved.]
Someone also noted that there are many causes of death so don't bother with trying to reduce deaths caused by a nut case with a gun. I believe there are serious attempts to reduce all causes of illness and death. Why not be serious about keeping guns from mentally ill? One argument is that anyone can get a gun no matter how deranged so why bother? Really???
How about requiring a class like we all had for our CHL to buy a gun? Oh wait, driver training doesn't stop car accidents so never mind.

A couple of thoughts
Since the early 1990's the BATFE has been discouraging "kitchen table" FFL's. When I started competitive shooting in the late 1990's, I did some research and decided becoming a FFL wasn't worth the effort. Does this mean the big "O" wants the pendulum the other way?
Guns lost in transit? I can't imagine this going unreported even 1% of the time.
There are some laws on the books that would reduce violent crime if they were enforced. The first one that comes to mind is "Felons with guns". Send these guys to Federal prison if they use a firearm they can't legally possess during a crime.
I am sure there are other laws that should be enforced.
Oh well.
I think the real issue is folks that like the Second Amendment, don't vote for "gun control" democrats. So the big "O" is making a gesture.

Interesting that you bring up Federal prosecution of felons with firearms, Tom.tomneal wrote:A couple of thoughts

Not sure what to say, we have 8,000,000,000 living humans, all of them are causing global warming. How about if we reduce the population by 20% over 20 yrs that would eliminate global warming.dale blanker wrote:Hmm, I bet you don't believe in climate change either(?). Evolution? Where is the gutless GOP majority, out trying to get re-elected?
Ironic. If they would do the "right" thing, they would be re-elected.

TheYankeeMarshal has an interesting idea to deal with Obama's executive orders and gun control in general.

Is that your own chart?Bitter Clinger wrote:And yet even more data:
That chart would make more sense if it were a bar-chart, rather than a line-chart. As is, my first impression was that mass shootings rose from 20 to 162 during Bush Jr.'s term, with no data for Obama's term.
Also, the references to Jr. and Sr. are technically incorrect.
