Isn't it generally (no pun intended) known that brass thinks guns are OK for combat but not supportive of gun rights. Think of Ft. Hood and Recruitment Centers. If the good guys had not been disarmed by the brass the body counts would be far less.

I think the affair was with a reporter, not a subordinate. But I believe that adultery is still a crime under UCMJ, though not sure if the person that one is cheating with has to be married too.
She was a West Point grad, a Major selected for LCOL in the reserve. That's why I said "junior" not subordinate. She was not a reporter but some sort of writer, whatever they are.

As the scandal broke, the Army revoked her pending promotion.

I'm not shocked as too many big Army higher ups have a nanny state mentality that does not reflect the bulk of service members. Unfortunately many big city police chiefs share the same paternalistic nanny state world view that is similarly distant from the preponderance of honorable rank and file.

So much for the Oath he took to uphold the Constitution, I guess that means nothing to some, just words

Whatever else Petraeus is, he was a great general in Iraq and later Afghanistan.

Having said that, my perception is that most officer, Colonel and above, are anti-gun and anti second amendment. The military is not a democratic organization and most high level officers do not trust their own soldiers. So I am entirely unsurprised that Petraeus is doing this.

As someone else stated above, almost all police chiefs similarly anti gun and anti second amendment.

It's part of the "me but not thee" attitude I find especially insulting. I have no respect for any man who may have been a great warrior on the battlefield, but an enemy of the people and constitution at home.

I had certainly lost some respect for the man over his loose attitude toward classified information. Now, I've lost pretty much whatever respect I had left for him and his service in Iraq and Afghanistan. A disgusting, elitist attitude at best. :mad5 :grumble

By the time one reaches O6 (Colonel) and above, it becomes political. Too many are more concerned about their careers than being warrior leaders. Kelly was only operational a short time in his career, then astronaut from then on. Essentially a civilian who often didn't even wear his uniform. Petraeus is more disappointing but also not surprising.

My real concern lies in those entering today's military, particularly the academies (West Point, Air Force Academy, Annapolis). Political correctness will be so systemic with these 2LT/Ensigns that there will be no hope for our future military.
The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.
