Between his trade war and anti-gun talk, my opinion of him is turning sour on a dime.

What are you all worried about? American cops will never enforce unconstitutional gun laws. Right?

We have cops (the FBI) willingly being used to investigate political opponents. And there are a lot of sheriffs who are not too fond of mere civilians having guns in the first place. I don't foresee much trouble in finding willing storm troopers to carry out confiscations, unfortunately. Not all cops will go along with it, but enough will.BBYC wrote:What are you all worried about? American cops will never enforce unconstitutional gun laws. Right?

If I remember correctly the folks in the Republican party weren't too crazy about him. If you're going to blame anyone blame the Republican party primary voters. They were the ones who picked him despite everyone's objections. The Annoyed Man wrote:
I just came here to post basically the same story - but from the Daily Wire (https://www.dailywire.com/news/27706/be ... en-shapiro). If they pull this crap, I will never vote for another republican candidate again - at ANY level. Period. Since 2012, I’ve been a libertarian-leaning independent, and proud of being an independent. But if they pass this ....... if it even gets out of committee ..... I am all in with the Libertarian Party, and the GOP can pitch woo to my considerable posterior.

Perhaps. But of all of the things that I'm worried about, a mass confiscation isn't on that list. I would point to Connecticut as evidence. Neither side has suggested that all the banned weapons were handled according to the options under the ban and CT would be a more likely place for that to happen than Texas. There are a lot of things have to happen before the real possibility of that starting is in place. If it even looks close, I predict that the lakes are just going to fill up with guns that were accidentally dropped overboard.Soccerdad1995 wrote:We have cops (the FBI) willingly being used to investigate political opponents. They most certainly will if it means they are not going to be able to put food on the table. Most cops don't hold firearms as a right.BBYC wrote:What are you all worried about? American cops will never enforce unconstitutional gun laws. Right?

My favorite partSenate GOP rejects Trump’s call to go big on gun legislation
Always call/write your reps. It seems to have an effect. One Republican senator who requested anonymity expressed doubt that Trump fully understands the Toomey–Manchin proposal and predicted he would change his mind on comprehensive background checks.
“Do you think he has any idea what’s in Manchin–Toomey?” the lawmaker asked. “As he gets more information he may not hold to that. What makes you think Manchin–Toomey will get more votes than it did before?”

Opinion: President Trump is Setting up the Gun Grabbers
Make no doubt about it. President Trump has not abandoned gun owners.
News is going around of President Trump saying various additions can be added to a gun control bill. Pro-2nd amendment advocates are losing their collective mind over his statements.
The statements are from a video clip which shows President Trump talking about police seizing firearms before going through due process. In that same conversation President Trump is telling people to add whatever they want to the bill. Dianne Feinstein cackles like a witch and starts rubbing her hands together.
What happens to a house of cards as it gets bigger? The more likely it is to fall down. The next gun control bill is being set up like a house of cards. What will cause the bill to collapse? Eventually there will be a question of rights.

Re: Can it be?: We may lose more gun rights under Trump than Obama?
I was not going to post a reply, but after rolling it around a bit, I will post my take.
I have read CALGUNS for as long as I have been on this site and have watched their rights spiral downward. I also recall how those folks were stating how they would never vote Republican again and etc. It sure hasn't turned out good for them. I will continue to vote Republican as well as fully support the NRA, as I believe it will be far easier and even perhaps surer to change a Conservative to being more Conservative than changing an avowed Socialist/Liberal Democrat to being pro-gun and Conservative.
I do have my issues with Trump, with Cornyn and with Cruz, and very often with the NRA. But, they are all I have. Stopping Bump Stocks has been occurring almost every year that they have been out and to me, something that has been stopped via fiat, is easy to change back via fiat. Not right, but with that said, could you imagine what would be going on if Hillary and the Democrats fully controlled the Nation? Go ahead and be like those in California, don't support the Republicans and either don't vote or vote Libertarian and watch our rights rapidly dissolve. Not only gun rights, but also rights to worship, to speak your mind and etc. I don't want to be California, so I will support the viable alternative and work to change within. A fully disabled Republican Party and Gun Rights organizations are my worst nightmare. Because then the only alternative is the cartridge box, because Marxists don't give up or stop until either they or the alternative are fully exterminated. All of history is my witness.
So, I support Trump, I believe he has done more to improve America in his first year than any other President, including Reagan. I also support the NRA, under Wayne LaPierre, I have seen massive improvements in Gun Rights. There is a war going on and in my opinion, we cannot separate, we must remain together, or be prepared to become California lite for sure.

Re: Can it be?: We may lose more gun rights under Trump than Obama?
Here is my opinion on losing gun rights.
We can't even get our own great State of Texas politicians to recognize that gun free zones are a bad idea.
I have zero confidence that it will change next session, though I would love to be proven wrong.
We accept much less from our Representatives and we then thank them for supporting 2A rights, when in reality we should be demanding more.
So, we are often taking the lesser of two evils. Do we want just some gun rights? Or None?
That is what we face not only in our own State, but also at the Federal level.
We are conditioned to be thankful for whatever rights we get to keep.
If I told you that Congress will ban bump stocks and raise the purchase age to 21, but in exchange there will be no Assault Weapons Ban, would you celebrate that as a victory?
Is not losing more gun rights considered a victory?
Do you honestly think that we will have a better chance next year or next session or next decade?
Where do we draw the line?
At certain types of guns? At caliber restrictions? At location restrictions?
In the future, what's to stop the government from threatening to ban semi-automatic pistols but offering to settle for raising the age to 30 for pistols instead?
Will we then celebrate that as a victory as well?
We all know why we need the 2nd Amendment.
We know we need more than a pellet gun or .22 rifle to truly honor the 2nd Amendment.
What bothers me is that I do not see anything changing in the future.
We can raise the membership levels of Pro 2A organizations all we want, but do you really think we can keep up?
Note that I am a member of a few and have signed up numerous others to join them...but will it ever be enough?
If we had a strong Pro 2A State Government, then they could tell the Federal Government that they will not enforce any Anti-2A law.
You know - kind of like some states do now for Marijuana.
Would that work? I don't know. It doesn't matter though because at this rate we will never have that kind of support.
Look local - is your entire courthouse annex and building posted 30.06 / 30.07? Does you County or City truly support your 2A rights?
My local Burnet County Officials do not. I have a letter in response to a complaint I filed to prove it.
If our local and state officials don't truly support 2A, do we honestly ever think our Federal Government will?
One thing I thought of doing was to create a website that would truly rate local officials and politicians 2A support.
If you think I shouldn't be allowed as a Licensed Holder who has passed background checks, etc... to carry a gun in a bar, or a school, or a post office, or a county tax office - you are not getting an ('A') Rating from me.
I may not be able to change things at the State or Federal level, but what if we all started locally?
What if we hold our local elected officials to a higher standard of 2A Support?
Will they eventually come around?
Is there enough of us to make a difference locally?
If not locally, how can we honestly expect things to improve on a national level?
What kind of rating system would get the full support of great people like those here, or organizations such as the NRA or the TSRA?
Your thoughts and opinions are welcome...

Re: Can it be?: We may lose more gun rights under Trump than Obama?
Here’s the deal....... There is a profound difference between losing on the one hand because our representatives stood tall and did the right thing, but simply couldn’t muster enough votes to win; and losing on the other hand because our representatives sold us down the river. I assume - rightfully so - that the democrats will gladly sell us down the river on this issue. Therefore, winning absolutely depends on republicans standing tall and defending our rights. If we lose because republicans aren’t in the majority and don’t have the votes, then it can’t be helped, and they will not have completely lost my trust. But if we lose because they join the democrats in selling us down the river, then I can never again trust them with my vote. Ever. I voted for Trump, not really because I thought he was the ideal candidate, but because I couldn’t conceive of the alternative.DEB wrote:I was not going to post a reply, but after rolling it around a bit, I will post my take.

Right now, republicans have a majority, AND they have a president who would likely sign whatever bill they put in front of him - knowing that to do so would guarantee his reelection if he protected the 2nd Amendment from more democrat treason. I expect republicans to do their duty to protect the Constitution. They have ZERO excuse for failing to do so.
I lived in California my entire life until moving here in 2006. I know exactly why California is like it is.
